    Abstract: An apparatus for exchanging pouring tubes at a casting vessel having a closeable bottom pour opening of a continuous casting installation. Each pouring tube has an infeed end and an outfeed end for the molten metal, typically steel, flowing therethrough and into a throughflow vessel, such as a continuous casting mold or tundish. Guides serve to move each pouring tube from an approximately horizontal introduction or infeed position into a substantially vertical casting position. The guides are structured such that different paths of movement are provided for the infeed end and outfeed end of the pouring tube, and specifically, the infeed end of the pouring tube moves along an approximately horizontal path of movement and the outfeed end of the pouring tube moves along an approximately vertical path of movement, at least a portion of which vertical path of movement is located within the throughflow vessel.

    Abstract: 1453841 Continuous casting CONCAST AG 4 Dec 1973 [5 Dec 1972] 56213/73 Heading B3F A steel casting 3, withdrawn (at more than 1 m./min.) from a cooled mould 1, is cooled in a first zone 5 of a guide apron 4 while the ferrostatic pressure of the core is contained by means (cooling plates 10, grids 15 or both) engaging the surface and is also cooled, until fully solidified, in a further zone 6 of the apron 4 where the core pressure is contained by the substantially equal pressure of a gaseous medium, e.g. steam evolved from cooling water from spray nozzles 32 in a pressure chamber 20. The cooling plates 10 operate as in Specification 1,112,017; the grids 15 function as in Specification 1,354,758 for direct cooling of the casting; and the pressure chamber 20 is constructed as described in Specification 1,398,891. The seal 22 at the entrance to the chamber 20 is cooled and connected to the grids 15. Roller pairs 29, 30, 31 in the chamber 20 form a withdrawing and straightening means. A further withdrawing means is arranged after the chamber. An outlet valve 41 from the topmost of a number of compartments 24-27, into which the chamber 20 is divided, controls the pressure in the chamber and the released steam is condensed. The condensate and unevaporated water, drained by bottom valves 33 controlled by a level gauge, are recirculated to the nozzles 32. The relative pressures in the compartments 25-27 are controlled by valves 42-44. The casting direction may be vertical (with possible bending), inclined or horizontal.
