Abstract: A strengthened glass container or vessel such as, but not limited to, vials for holding pharmaceutical products or vaccines in a hermetic and/or sterile state. The strengthened glass container undergoes a strengthening process that produces compression at the surface and tension within the container wall. The strengthening process is designed such that the tension within the wall is great enough to ensure catastrophic failure of the container, thus rendering the product unusable, should sterility be compromised by a through-wall crack. The tension is greater than a threshold central tension, above which catastrophic failure of the container is guaranteed, thus eliminating any potential for violation of pharmaceutical integrity.

Abstract: A glass container comprising: a glass body having an interior surface and an exterior surface, wherein at least the interior surface of the glass body has a delamination factor of less than or equal to 10; and a heat-tolerant coating bonded to at least a portion of the exterior surface of the glass body, wherein the exterior surface of the glass body with the heat-tolerant coating has a coefficient of friction of less than about 0.7, wherein the coefficient of friction is a maximum coefficient of friction measured relative to a second glass container in a vial-on-vial testing jig under a normal load of 30 N, the second glass container having a body formed from a same glass composition and comprising the heat-tolerant coating on an at least a portion of the outer surface of a body of the second glass container and subjected to the same environmental conditions prior to measurement.

A tenacious inorganic coating may be positioned around at least a portion of the outer surface of the body. Abstract: Low-friction coatings and glass articles with low-friction coatings are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a coated glass article may include a glass body comprising a first surface and a low-friction coating positioned on at least a portion of the first surface of the glass body. The low-friction coating may include a polymer chemical composition. The coated glass article may be thermally stable at a temperature of at least about 260°C for 30 minutes. A light transmission through the coated glass article may be greater than or equal to about 55% of a light transmission through an uncoated glass article for wavelengths from about 400 nm to about 700 nm. The low- friction coating may have a mass loss of less than about 5% of its mass when heated from a temperature of 150°C to 350°C at a ramp rate of about 10°C/minute.
