    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polycarbonate excellent in heat resistance, hydrolysis resistance and hue by adding a phosphite compound to a specified polycarbonate. CONSTITUTION:A phosphite compound desirably comprising a compound of the formula is added to a polycarbonate obtained by melt polycondensation through transesterification between a dihydroxy compound [e.g. 2,2-bis(hydroxyphenyl)-propane] and a bisaryl carbonate (e.g. diphenyl carbonate) in the presence of a transesterification catalyst (e.g. potassium borohydride).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer containing little by-product and residual reaction solvent by adding a mixture of aromatic polyether polymer to a volatile on-solvent, crushing the polymer simultaneous to precipitation and extracting the granulated polymer with a non-solvent. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer is purified by removing by-products and reaction solvent from an aromatic polyether polymer mixture by the following procedures. The polymer mixture is added to a volatile solvent which is a non-solvent of said aromatic polyether polymer. The precipitated aromatic polymer is crushed simultaneous to precipitation and the granulated polymer is extracted with a non-solvent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To carry out the purification and separation of a polymer having low residual solvent content, uniform particle size and high bulk density, in high efficiency by cooling an aromatic polyether polymer mixture to form a precipitate, granulating the precipitate and removing by-products and reaction solvent from the granule. CONSTITUTION:A mixture composed of an aromatic polyether polymer, by- products (e.g., KCI) and reaction solvent (e.g., tetramethylene sulfone) is cooled to a temperature near the freezing point of the reaction solvent and the produced precipitate is granulated. The objective aromatic polyether polymer can be separated in purified state by removing the by-products and the reaction solvent from the granule. The obtained polymer has excellent heat-resistance and flame-retardance and is useful as a resin for the parts of electronic apparatus.

CONSTITUTION:The transesterification of a dihydroxy compd. of formula I, II. or III (wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, and R6 are each H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralakyl, or aryl; X1, X2, Y1, Y2, Y3, Z1, and Z2 are each halogen, alkoxy, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, or aryl; (l), (m), (n), (p), (q), (r), and (s) are each 0-4; and (t) is 2-10) with a carbonic diester (e.g. diphenyl carbonate) is conducted under contact with a powdered, particulate, or ribbonlike metallic material contg. at least 50% Al and/or Mn, thus giving a high-mol. -wt. polycarbonate free from coloration.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polycarbonate having a high molecular weight and improved colorlessness, transparency and production efficiency by melt- polycondensing a dihydroxy compound with a bisaryl carbonate by transesterification in four specified steps. CONSTITUTION:In step 1, a monomer mixture comprising a dihydroxy compound (A) and a bisaryl carbonate (B) is polycondensed in a molten state in at least one tank-type reactor to obtain a polycarbonate prepolymer of a viscosity- average molecular weight of 5000-20000. In step 2, this prepolymer is received in at least one hold tank, step 3, it is polycondensed in a vented extruder to obtain a polycarbonate of a viscosity-average molecular weight of 10000-30000 while the distillate such as the phenol formed by the reaction is removed. In step 4, this polycarbonate is treated in at least one paddle-type self-cleaning twin-screw extruder to melt-polycondense components A and B by transesterification to thereby obtain a polycarbonate of a viscosity-average molecular weight of 10000-30000.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a lowly colored high-molecular weight polycarbonate by melt-polycondensing a dihydroxy compound with a bisaryl carbonate in a reactor having an inside wall made of buffed stainless steel. CONSTITUTION:The inside wall of a stainless steel reactor is buffed with a buffing compound having a grain size of 80mum or below. A dihydroxy compound of any one of formulas I-IV (wherein R1 to R5 are each H, 1-8C linear or branched alkyl or phenyl; X is halogen, (n) is 0-4; and (m) is 1-4) is melt- polycondensed with a bisaryl carbonate at 100-300 deg.C in the presence of a transesterification catalyst (e.g. lithium borohydride) in the reactor.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title high-bulk density polymer efficiently, by treating an aromatic polyether polymer mixture left after removing by-products and the reaction solvent from the reaction mixture with a specified mixed solvent. CONSTITUTION:A mixed solvent (B) is obtained by mixing an aliphatic alcohol (a) (e.g., methanol) with a ketone (b) (e.g., acetone) at a ratio of 8-1:2-9. Reaction by-products and the reaction solvent are removed from an aromatic polyether polymer mixture (A), and 5-20pts.wt., per pt.wt. component A, component B is added to the residue. The resulting mixture is agitated at a temperature lower than any of the boiling points of components (a) and (b), preferably at room temperature - 50 deg.C.
