A method and apparatus for rapidly removing moisture and/or solvent from a book for reducing the total cycle time required to deacidify the book. The present invention provides a chemical solution which deacidifies the papers and leaves a buffering agent against and improves the physical characteristics of the papers.

An improved watercraft and propulsion system is disclosed for moving a watercraft such as an amphibious vehicle (20) or a speed boat (70) from 0 velocity to speeds in excess of 20 miles per hour. Each watercraft includes water propulsion systems (26, 26a, 26b) which are preferably pivotally mounted on or near the rear end of the watercraft for pivotal movement between a transversely aligned stowed position above the vehicle and an operative position within the watercraft and below the vehicle. Hydrofoils (28, 28b) may be connected to the water propulsion system, and bow or transom flaps (40, 38, 38a) plus the planing hull of the vehicle aids in providing adequate lift when in the water.

Crops such as corn and other gramineous plants are protected from phytotoxic injury by the herbicide, 1-[2,4-dichloro-5-(N-methylsulfonylamino)phenyl]-3-methyl-4-difluoromethyl-Δ2-1,2,4-triazolin-5-one, by coating the seeds of the crops, prior to planting, with a non-phytotoxic quantity of 1,8-naphthalic anhydride. The crops are safened against phytotoxic injury when the herbicide is applied pre-emergent, post-emergent or in a pre-plant incorporated manner.

The present application discloses herbicidal phosphorylaminophenyl-substituted heterocycles, compositions of them, methods of preparing them, and methods for controlling undesired plant growth by preemergence or postemergence application of the herbicidal compositions to the locus where control is desired.
