    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the apparent scanning speed by dividing two lines of display electrode pairs at different positions and constituting different combination regions. CONSTITUTION:Address electrodes 13 and two lines of display electrode pairs 11 perpendicular to them are provided respectively on substrates arranged face to face via a gas space. Each of the electrode pair 11 is divided at different positions X, Y in the extension direction, and three different combination regions A-C selected by the divided four display electrodes D1-D4 are constituted. The apparent scanning speed is sharply increased by the simple change of the electrode layout according to the division of this screen structure. As a result, a high-quality moving picture can be displayed on a large panel.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the display quality and yield by providing a groove between a grid-shaped partition wall section made of a thick film and a peripheral edge section formed on the substrate inner face of a face discharge type gas discharge panel so that the peripheral edge section softened by the processing heat does not infiltrate into the partition wall section. CONSTITUTION:A grid-shaped partition wall section 3 made of low-melting point glass and a wide edge section 5 are formed by printing across a groove 4 on the inner face of an upper substrate 2, a phosphor is coated on the partition wall section 3, and opening sections 6 arranged in a matrix shape are provided. On the other hand, maintaining electrodes X, Y are covered with a dielectric layer 8 on a lower substrate, and a selecting electrode A insulated from the maintaining electrodes X, Y and crossing them is formed. A spacer 10 and a seal 11 keep a space introducing the discharge gas between the upper and lower substrates 1, 2. If a panel with such constitution is used, the edge section 5 does not infiltrate into the partition wall section 3 by the existence of the groove 4 in the baking process, thereby the area of the opening sections 6, i.e., the luminous area, is not reduced, and the display quality and yield are improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable sticking of a phosphor on displaying points without interruption of large partitions by spraying a cover substrate, from a nozzle, with a phosphor solution, which is formed by dissolving a phosphor into a solvent, insularly corresponding to discharge points. CONSTITUTION:While an injection head 1 is slided on a scanning mechanism 3, the scanning mechanism 3 itself is moved perpendicularly to said sliding direction, at every pitch of a picture element on the whole surface of a cover substrate 6. Therefore, a space length is maintained between a nozzle 2 and partitions 7. The cover substrate 6 on which the partitions 7 are processed in advance is fixed not to move on a mounting board 8. Since each temporary stopping position for the injection head 1 moving on the scanning mechanism 3 controlled via a controlling cable 4 from a controlling portion 5 corresponds to each position for the picture element, a phosphor solution is dripped or injected thereat through the nozzle 2 from the injection head 1. Hence, coating of the phosphor 9 is completed on positions which correspond to displaying discharge portions surrounded with the partitions 7 on the bottom part of the substrate 6 by dripping or injection of the phosphor solution from the nozzle 2.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the careless induction of discharge to an adjacent discharge maintaining cell and enlarge action margins, by providing an electrode constituting glass board, providing a conductive plate for the outer surface or the inner surface of the other glass board which is disposed oppositely via gas filled space, and applying constant direct current potential for them. CONSTITUTION:Constant direct current potential is applied to one glass board 1 which is provided with plural discharge maintaining electrodes 2, 3 and a write electrode 5, and to the transparent conductive film 22 of a conductive glass plate 21 which is provided on the outer surface of the other glass board 8 for a cover opposing to the glass board 1 sandwiching gas filled space 9. Thus, the expansion of the discharge of a write discharge cell inside a panel and the discharge of a discharge maintaining cell which is succeeded selectively by the write discharge, or the expansion of electric field distribution is controlled to be narrowed, so that the careless induction of discharge to the adjacent discharge maintaining cell can be prevented.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To achieve wide operational margin by arranging a pair of discharge electrodes for assisting address in parallel with the final discharge sustaining electrode in plural rows. CONSTITUTION:At least a pair of address assist discharge electrodes Zx, Zy are arranged in parallel with the final line of discharge sustaining electrode pairs X11, Y11-X33, Y33. Consequently, when executing display addresses of 9th line in the final discharge sustaining electrode pairs X33, Y33, all dummy discharge cells constituting the line of address assist discharge electrode pair Zx, Zy arranged in parallel while adjoining to 9th line where all display cells are already lighting, and all display cells in 1st line of first discharge sustaining electrode pair X11, Y11 are lighted. Then the cells in 9th line not required to be displayed are similarly eliminated to discharge the selected display cells. Consequently, residual wall charges in the cells not required to be displayed are taken to the dummy discharge cell side in the line of address assist discharge electrode pair Zx, Zy and eliminated completely thus to eliminate recharging resulting in wide and stable operational margin.
