    Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device of the twisted nematic type comprising upper and lower substrates, upper and lower transparent electrodes formed on the inner surfaces of respective substrates, a liquid crystal interposed between the upper and lower electrodes with its molecules oriented in a twisted arrangement, each of the upper and lower electrodes is constituted by a plurality of electrode segments, and the upper electrode segments are displaced toward lower edge of the display with respect to the corresponding lower electrode segments.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make clear display without using a mosaic polarizing plate by sealing colored liquid crystal of the same system as the upper colored layer between an upper substrate in which parts other than display pattern are colored and a lower substrate in which the pattern is colored in other color. CONSTITUTION:A material of guest host colored liquid crystal is sealed between an upper electrode transparent substrate 1 and a lower electrode transparent substrate 2. Colored paint of the same system with the material of liquid crystal is painted on the surface of the upper electrode transparent substrate 1 excepting those parts 5a-5d which correspond to the pattern to be displayed. Individual colored paints 7a-7d different in color from the colored liquid crystal are painted on the surface of a polarizing plate 4 stuck to the lower electrode transparent substrate making the painted parts slightly larger than the parts corresponding to the pattern to be displayed. When voltage is not applied, the pattern is not observable due to the liquid crystal and the paint 6. However, when voltage is applied, light in the pattern part is transmitted and painted colors 7a-7d corresponding to the pattern can be observed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the heat resisting property and the humidity resisting property, by sticking a dyestuff-polarized plate on both surfaces of a TN-type liquid crystal display element, and also placing a semitransmittable reflecting plate which has covered one surface of a hat-resistive plastic sheet with an organic film containing a reflecting material, on the reverse side. CONSTITUTION:This display device is provided with an upper substrate 1, a lower substrate 2, a sealing agent 3, a liquid crystal 4, an upper polarized plate 5, adhesive agents 6, 7 and 9, a lower polarized plate 8, a heat- and humidity-resistance supporting plate 31, a semitransmittable reflecting film 32, a semitransmittable reflecting plate 33 consisting of this supporting plate 31 and the reflecting film 32, and a light diffusing surface 34. The supporting plate 31 is made of a plastic sheet having a high heat-resisting property and is 0.05-0.25mm. in thickness, and the semitransmittable reflecting film 32 is a film of an organic matter containing a reflecting material. When this semitransmittable reflecting film 32 is applied onto the supporting plate 31 so as to be about 20-200mu and is dried so that it becomes the semitransmittable reflecting plate 33 of 0.1-0.3mm. in total thickness, that which has 45-65% reflectance and 1.0-2.0% transmissivity is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve high-speed response characteristic in a low temperature region by so constituting the twisted nematic type (TN type) liquid crystal display element that the long axes of liquid crystal molecules have twists of 270+ or -10 deg. between the opposing substrates. CONSTITUTION:The nematic liquid crystal added with rotatory polarization materials (e.g., chloesteric chloride, cholesteric nonanoate) is used as the liquid crystal composition. In the case of using the liquid crystal composition added with, e.g., dextro-rotatory material, as the rotatory material, a lower substrate 2 having been rubbed in the direction shown by the dotted line and an upper substrate 1 having been rubbed in the direction (shown by the solid line) rotated about 270 deg. in the left- hand twist from the above-mentioned rubbing direction are combined and the above liquid crystal composition 3 is interposed therebetween to form the TN type display element. In the case of using levo-rotatory material the above twist direction is made right-hand twist.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable wide operation margins and good display quality to be obtained by performing inputting to electrodes from both sides of said electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The other end side of the lower electrode 4 formed on a lower substrate 2 connects to the top and bottom connecting part 10 of the lower substrate end part. A top and bottom connecting part 11 is formed on the opposite inside surface of an upper substrate 1 and part thereof is extended to form a lower electrode terminal 12. The top and bottom connecting parts 10, 11 are electrically connected by interposing coudctive paste therebetween. When the same input voltage is supplied from both ends of the lower terminals 8, 12 to the lower electrode 4 and another voltage is supplied from the upper terminal 5 to the upper electrode 3, the specified pattern displaying is accomplished by the electro-optical change of the liquid crystal between the electrodes 3, 4. This mechanism reduces the electric resistance on the line and the change owing to the location or driving frequencies of the voltage values applied to the liquid crystal becomes smaller.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title film of superior mass-productivity, which film is formed at a relatively low temp. and easily controlled in thickness, by coating a substrate with a soln. of a tin cpd. and an antimony cpd. in an org. solvent followed by drying, heating and calcination. CONSTITUTION:A substrate is coated with a soln. of a tin cpd. and an antimony cpd. in an org. solvent, and the coated substrate is dried, heated, and calcined. As the tin cpd. a soln. of tin in a mixt. of acetyl acetone and nitric acid may be used. The acetyl acetone, nitric acid and tin contents of the coating soln. mainly affect the solubility of the tin and the coating property of the soln. The antimony content has an effect on lowering in sheet resistance of the resulting transparent, electrically conductive film. The org. solvent used includes methanol, ethanol and acetone.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable accurate dimensions and shapes to be obtained without any waste of materials and with good workability by providing the specific grooves in the cutting positions on the opposite face sides of glass substrates and cutting and separating the glass substrates by utilizing these grooves. CONSTITUTION:Grooves 23 of U-form in section having the relation of the formula (t is the thickness of glass substrate mm; d is the depth of grooves mm) are provided along the cutting lines at boundaries of upper substrate parts 2 and lower substrate parts 7 to a glass substrate 1 alternately disposed with the substrate parts 2, 7 and formed respectively with transparent electrodes and common electrodes. The glass substrate 101 similarly alternately disposed with lower substrate parts 109 and upper substrate parts 104 and provided with grooves 117 and the substrate 1 are opposed and are thermally bonded by means of adhesive agents 27, 129. Next, scores 23, 127 are given to the opposite surfaces of the grooves 13, 117. thereafter pressure is applied like the arrows B, C to the outside surfaces of the substrates 1, 101 opposing to the grooves 117, 13, then they crack between the groove 13 and score 23 as well as between the groove 117 and score 127, whereby they are separated.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To maintain durability even in energization for a long period without causing inducing domain even in the case of frit-sealing, by using s specific polmerization resinous substance in oriented film. CONSTITUTION:Diamino dialkoxy carbonyl amino compound and tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride are caused to react in an organic solvent such as N-methyl-2- pyrolidone to generate a polybenzo imidazo pyrrolone polymerization resin in formula (where, Ar1: diamino dialkoxy carbonyl amino compound residual group; Ar2: tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride resindual group). This solution is diluted to a proper concentration, and is spread on a glass substrate which is preliminarily coated with an inorganic insulation film such as SiO2 in the upper layer or lower layer of electrode layer. The film after setting has excellent performance in loss starting temperature and heating loss characteristic, and is frit-sealed after rubbing with cloth or the like.
