Abstract: The invention comprises compounds of the general formula (wherein X represents a C1-3 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R1 a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkyl group, R2 a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R3 a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy group, and R4 and R5 hydrogen atoms or hydroxy or methoxy groups) and their physiologically tolerable acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts, and pharmaceutical preparations containing them. The bases may be prepared by the following processes: (a) reducing a ketone of the general formula or (for products in which R3 = OH) a diketone of the general formula in the presence of an amine of the general formula (b) (for products in which R3 = OH) reacting an amine of the last general formula in (a) with a halo-ketone of the general formula and then reducing the keto group; (c) (for products in which X = -CH2CH2- or reducing an aldehyde or ketone of the general formula in the presence of an amine of the general formula (d) (for products in which R3 = H) reacting diphenylmethane or diphenylacetonitrile with a halo-amine of the general formula and (when using diphenylacetonitrile) replacing the CN group by hydrogen; (e) for products in which R2 = CH3) methylating the compounds in which R2 = H; (f) (for products in which R4 and/or R5 = OH) demethylating the corresponding methoxy compounds; (g) (for products in which R4 and/or R5 = OCH3) methylating the corresponding hydroxy compounds. The pharmaceutical preparations, which have a beneficial effect on coronary and peripheral blood circulation, may be in forms suitable for oral or parenteral administration, e.g. tablets, dragees or injection solutions.
