Abstract: A thermoplastic moulding composition comprising A) from 50 to 95% by weight of polyoxymethylene, B) from 5 to 50% by weight of a rubber-elastic graft copolymer, and optionally conventional additives, where component B) comprises a rubber-elastic core based on at least one polydiene which is at least partially crosslinked, and at least one rigid graft shell, and has a bimodal particle size distribution. Monomers for the formation of the graft shell are styrene, (meth)acrylonitrile and/or methyl methacrylate. The mouldings produced from the moulding compositions have good ductile fracture behaviour, even at low temperatures.

Abstract: A process for producing a polyoxymethylene copolymer having improved thermal stability and/or a high degree of polymerisation comprises copolymerising trioxane as a main monomer with a cyclic ether or a cyclic formal as a comonomer in the presence of 1 x 10 % to 1 x 10 % by mole (based on the total amount of the monomers) of a catalyst comprising boron trifluoride or a coordination compound thereof, wherein unwanted decomposition and side reactions are controlled by keeping to below 1 x 10 % by mole (based on the total amount of the monomers) the total content of impurities such as would give short product chains and/or unstable terminal groups in the copolymer, and cooling the obtained product to a temperature of 45 DEG C or below within 30 seconds after the completion of the copolymerisation to deactivate the catalyst.

Abstract: A filter material based on a polyarylene thioether having repeating units of the formula -[(Ar1)n-X)]m-[(Ar2)i-Y)]j-[(Ar3)k-Z)]l-[(Ar4)o-W)]p-(I) in which Ar1, Ar2, Ar3, Ar4, W, X, Y and Z, independently of each other, are identical or different, the indices n, m, i, j, k, l, o and p, independently of each other, are zero or integers 1, 2, 3 or 4, their sum being at least 2, Ar1, Ar2, Ar3 and Ar4 are arylene systems having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, and W, X, Y and Z are divalent linking groups, selected from -SO2-, -S-, -SO-, -CO-, -O-, -CO2-, or alkylene groups or alkylidene groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms is suitable for removing ozone from gases or liquids. The removal proceeds quantitatively, no volatile products being formed.

Abstract: In the process for the preparation, with simultaneous end group stabilization, of polyacetal copolymers in a homogeneous phase and working up thereof, cyclic formaldehyde oligomers are copolymerized with cyclic acetals in the presence of an initiator in a polymerization reactor and immediately thereafter the initiator is deactivated by addition of basic substances, the unstable chain ends being degraded down to 0.01% to 1% in the presence of residual monomer, the product losing the majority of the residual monomer at the reactor outlet by letting down into a pelletizing device and the residual monomer which remains and the impurities dissolved in the product being removed by extraction with solvents and the product being pelletized, after drying and stabilization.

Also claimed is a method of removing oxides of nitrogen, in which an NOx-containing gas or a liquid is brought into contact with the abovementioned filter material and a chemical reaction occurs. Nitrogen monoxide can likewise be removed by adding to the filter material oxidative inorganic or organic compounds having an electron potential of greater than or equal to 0.96 V.
