Abstract:
Abstract:
A process for the oxidn. of sulphur-contg. polymers comprises bringing the polymer into contact with N2O4. Pref the polymer starting materials are linear and/or branched polyarylenes with units of formula-(Ar )n-Xm-(Ar )i-Yj-(Ar )k-Zl-(Ar )oWp- (I)Ar gps. = 6-18C arylene systems in the form of single rings or directly p-, m- or o-linked ring systems; W,X,Y,Z = -SO2-, -S-, -SO-, -CO-, -O-, -COO-, 1-6C alkylene or alkylidene, or -NR - (with R = 1-6C alkyl or alkylidene); at least one of these gps. must be -S-; indices n.. etc. = 0,1,2,3 or 4; sum of indices = at least 2.
Abstract:
A filter material contg. polyarylene ethers is used to remove NO2. Also claimed is a filter material contg., in addition, an oxidising agent with a redox potential of at least 0.96V. Also claimed are filters contg. such filter materials and the process of producing gases free of NO and NO2 by bringing the gases in contact with such filter materials.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polymer sulphides which is characterised in that compounds containing sulphoxide linking groups of the formula (I> -[(Ar )n-X)]m-[(Ar )i-Y)]j-[(Ar )k-Z)]l-[(Ar )o-W)]p- (1> in which the symbols and indices have the following meanings: Ar , Ar , Ar and Ar are identical or different arylene systems having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, W, X, Y and Z are identical or different -SO2-, -S-, -SO-, -CO-, -O-, -CO2-, alkylene or alkylide groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, preferably 1 to 4 carbon atoms, where at least one linking group from W, X, Y or Z must be an -SO- group, n, m, i, j, k, l, o and p are identical or different and are 0 or an integer 1, 2, 3 or 4, where their sum must be at least 2, are treated a) thermally or b) in the presence of active hydrogen or c) photochemically and reduced to the corresponding sulphides.

Abstract:
Polyarylene sulphide-sulphonic acids which are soluble in polar aprotic solvents are new. Also claimed is the prepn. of the acids, comprising completely dissolving the polyarylene sulphide in chloro sulphonic acid, opt. adding oleum or acetic anhydride, and then precipitating the prod. in an aq. medium.
Abstract:
A filter material based on a polyarylene thioether having repeating units of the formula -[(Ar1)n-X)]m-[(Ar2)i-Y)]j-[(Ar3)k-Z)]l-[(Ar4)o-W)]p-(I) in which Ar1, Ar2, Ar3, Ar4, W, X, Y and Z, independently of each other, are identical or different, the indices n, m, i, j, k, l, o and p, independently of each other, are zero or integers 1, 2, 3 or 4, their sum being at least 2, Ar1, Ar2, Ar3 and Ar4 are arylene systems having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, and W, X, Y and Z are divalent linking groups, selected from -SO2-, -S-, -SO-, -CO-, -O-, -CO2-, or alkylene groups or alkylidene groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms is suitable for removing ozone from gases or liquids. The removal proceeds quantitatively, no volatile products being formed.
