Abstract: The object of the invention is a process for the preparation of olefin polymers using a modified Ziegler catalyst. As modifications compounds are used which contain as the only functional groups one or two tertiary carboxylic acid amide groups or a urea grouping four times substituted at the nitrogen atoms. Polymers are obtained which confer special mechanical properties on the molded articles prepared therefrom.

Abstract: The invention provides a process for homopolymerizing or copolymerizing ethylene in the presence of mixed catalysts comprising as component A the reaction products of specific tetravalent titanium compounds with chlorine-containing magnesium compounds containing at least 1.5 moles of OH groups per gram-atom of magnesium and as component B an organo-aluminum compound. Under a pressure below 20 atmospheres the yields are so high per unit of catalyst that the residues thereof need not be removed from the polymer. It is possible to produce polymers having a very narrow distribution of molecular weight and very good color and corrosion values.

Abstract: 1339332 α-Olefin polymerization FARBWERKE HOESCHST AG 5 Nov 1971 [7 Nov 1970] 51582/71 Heading C3P α-Olefins CH 2 = CHR where R is aliphatic with 1 to 4 carbon atoms are polymerized by themselves or with up to 5% by weight ethylene or block polymerized by themselves or with up to 25% by weight ethylene in suspension or in the gas phase at temperatures of 20‹ C. to 130‹ C. and gauge pressures of 0 to 50 atmospheres in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) a phosphoric acid N alkylamide O = P(NR 2 ) 3 where the groups R may be the same or different hydrocarbon radicals having up to 4 carbon atoms and may be linked to other R groups, (e.g. hexaethyl or hexamethyl trisamide of phosphoric acid or phosphoric acid trisethyleneimide) (b) a cyclopolyalkene with 7 or 8 ring members and 2 to 4 non-cumulative double bonds in the ring or alkyl or alkoxysubstituted derivatives thereof having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical (e.g. 1, 3, 5 cycloheptatriene, norcaradiene, cyclooctatriene or cyclooctatetraene) (c) a halogen containing compound of trivalent titanium and (d) a halogen free organoaluminium compound. In the examples propylene is polymerized in the presence and absence of preformed polypropylene using as catalyst TiCl 3 1/3 AlCl 3 , triethylaluminium, phosphoric acid hexamethyl trisamide and 1,3,5 cycloheptatriene or cyclooctatetraene. In Example 15 the product is treated with propanol and washed with acetone. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 920, 118, 1,018,341 and 1,254,016.

Abstract: A catalyst of high activity and stereospecificity in alpha -olefin polymerization is obtained when titanium trichloride, prepared from titanium tetrachloride by reduction with an aluminum alkyl halide, is thermally treated, first with an ether in the presence of a cyclopolyene and the solid reaction product is then treated with an aluminum alkyl halide in the presence of a small amount of a cyclopolyene and/or an olefin. With the catalyst obtained high space-time yields of alpha -olefin polymers and copolymers can be produced.
