Abstract: 1437716 #-Isopropylnaphthalene HOECHST AG 4 May 1973 [6 May 1972] 21356/73 Heading C5E α - Isopropylnaphthalene is isomerized to # - isopropylnaphthalene using as catalyst 0À05 to 1À5 wt. per cent of aluminium chloride or a substituted aluminium chloride (e.g. aluminium ethyl dichloride) calculated upon the total quantity of alkylated naphthenes initially present. The isomerization can be carried out at 40-200‹ C. The feeds treated can contain # - isopropylnaphthalene and diisopropylnaphthalenes in addition to the α-isopropylnaphthalenes and can be a mixture such as obtained by the propylation of naphthalene.
