    Abstract: PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF PLASTICS DISPERSIONS of the disclosure: Plastics dispersions are described which impart high wet adhesion to paints formulated therewith. The dispersions are obtained by copolymerizing A) from 5 to 50 % by weight, preferably from 15 to 35 % by weight, relative to the total amount of monomers, of vinyl esters of saturated branched monocarboxylic acids having from 5 to 20, preferably from 5 to 11 carbon atoms, the carboxyl groups of which are directly linked to a tertiary or quaternary carbon atom, B) from 40 to 94.5 % by weight of vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate and/or vinyl isobutyrate, C) optionally from 0 to 30 % by weight of other alpha-beta-un-saturated compounds copolymerizable with the above monomers, and D) from 0.5 to 10 % by weight of an acetoacetic acid ester of the formula were X is -O-, -O-CH2- or -O-CH2-CH2-O-? and R and R' each are H or CH3.

    Abstract: An aq. dispersion, suitable for prodn. of paints, is prepd. by copolymerising (A) 20-80 (40-60)wt% of methyl methacrylate, styrene and/or vinyltoluene, as hardener monomer, (B) 20-80(40-60) wt % of an acrylic ester of a 2-8C (un) branched alkanol, or an opt. halogenated 4-8C conjugated diene, ans softener monomer, (C) 0.1-5% (meth)acrylic acid and/or (meth)acrylamide, and (D) 0.5-10 (1-5)% of an acetylacetic acid ester of formula CH3-CO-CH2-CO-X-C-(R)=C(R1)-H, (R) (where X is -O-, -O-CH2- or -O-CH2-CH2-O-CO, and R and R1 are H or CH3). The paints adhere well to smooth, non-absorbent surfaces, under damp conditions, e.g. in kitchens or bathrooms. They are very resistant to saponification. (D) Allyl acetylacetate (II) is claimed. In an example, a paint prepd. from a copolymer of methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, butyl acrylate, styrene and (II) had an abrasion resistance in a wet brush test of >5000, a similar paint, in which the copolymer did nto contain (II), gave a value of 110.
