Abstract: Provided is a method for updating a group key in a highly secure manner and at high speed. A method includes: a step of making subscriber terminals (20) perform a part of decryption of an encrypted group key used to decrypt the information before distribution of the group key; a step of distributing the group key and individual decryption information used to perform a part of remaining decryption other than the part of decryption of the group key and corresponding to terminal devices to the subscriber terminals (20); and a step of making the subscriber terminals (20) perform decryption of the group key using the decryption information being distributed and results obtained by implementing a part of decryption of the group key, the part of decryption previously being performed.

Abstract: A data hiding method for hiding message data in media data and a data extracting method for extracting message data hidden in the media data. In the data hiding method, the message data are dispersedly hidden in the media data so that no third person can alter the message data. Specifically, the array elements of a message array are dispersedly hidden in a media array based on a status value S designating a specific array element in the media array when the media data and message data are expressed as the media array and the message array, respectively. The hiding method includes (a) a step of determining the j-th (j0) status value Sj, (b) a step of determining the (j+1)th status value Sj+1 based on the value Sj, the array element of the media array designated by the value Sj and the above-mentioned array element of the message array, and (c) a step of hiding data to be hidden in the array element of the media array designated by the value Sj+1.

Abstract: A digital camera has means to authentication information into a photographed image for detecting the identity of the image. The authentication information supplied integrally with the image data, so that, the verifier can verify the image data without saving the authentication information. This is achieved by having a region dividing unit 24 for dividing the image into a first image region and a second image region in response to the digital signal, authentication information generating means 29 for generating authentication information from data in the first image region, encrypting means 30 for encrypting the authentication information, hiding means 25 for embedding the encrypted authentication information into the second image region by operating the data in the second image region, and region combining means 26 for combining the first image region in the image with the second image region in which the authentication information is embedded.

Abstract: The invention provides a digital camera which embeds authentication informat ion for detecting the identity of a photographed image into the image. By supplying the authentication information integrally with image data, the verifier is enabl ed to verify the image data without saving the authentication information. By converting the light inputted through an optical system 21 to an electric signal, a CCD 22 outputs an anal og signal of an image. A signal processor 23 generates a digital signal of the image is r esponse to the analog signal. A digital camera has: a region dividing unit 24 for dividing the image into a first image region and a second image region in response to the digital si gnal; authentication information generator 29 for generating authentication inform ation from data in the first image region; encryptor 30 for encrypting the authentication in formation; hiding means 25 for embedding the encrypted authentication information into the sec ond image region by operating the data in the second image region; and region combinin g means 26 for combining the first image region in the image with the second image regi on in which the authentication information is embedded.

The local server sends to the ONS proxy server an ONS service request that includes the virtual ID and requests a network address of the PML server. The local server receives, from the ONS server, the network address of the PML server. The local server sends to the PML server, at the network address of the PML server, a PML information request that includes the virtual ID and requests article information. The local server receives, from the PML server, the article information.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for accessing information on an article with a tag attached thereon, the method making it possible to prevent information on article worn by an individual from being grasped with a tag reader installed in a public space, without sacrificing traceability and without involving much increase in cost, a local server, an ONS proxy, a program, a tag creation method, a tag writer and a tag writer control program. According to the invention, there is provided a method for providing access to information on articles associated with tags in a network system including a local server, an ONS proxy, an ONS server and at least one PML server, the method comprising the steps of: the local server reading, by using a tag reader connected to the local server, the data stored in a tag including at least one encrypted virtual ID; the local server sending an ONS service request including the virtual ID to the ONS proxy; the ONS proxy acquiring an article ID by decrypting the virtual ID by use of a key K; the ONS proxy generating, by using the article ID, a network address request for acquiring the network address of a PML server in which the information on article associated with the tag is stored, to send the request to the ONS server; the local server receiving the network address of a PML server which the ONS server has returned in response to the network address request; the local server sending, by using the network address of a PML server, a PML service request including the virtual ID to the PML server; and the PML server providing access to the information on article associated with the tag, which has been specified with the article ID acquired by decrypting the virtual ID by use of the key K, for the local server.

Abstract: To provide a data hiding method of hiding media data in message data and a data extraction method of extracting the hidden data wherein message data is dispersively hidden in media data such as an image or sound to prevent a third person from modifying the message data easily. A data hiding method in which media data is expressed as a media array while message data is expressed as a message array so that the array elements of the message array can be dispersively hidden in the message array based on a state values specifying a particular array element of the media array, comprises the steps of: (a) determining the j-th (j ≥ 0) state value Sj; (b) determining (j + 1)-th state value Sj+1 based on the j-th state value, the array element of the media array indicated by the j-th state value, and the array element of the message array; and (c) hiding data with respect to the array element of the media array indicated by the (j + 1)-th state value Sj+1.
