Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent recording and reproducing characteristics and durability by using vitreous carbon for the substrate of the magnetic recording medium and forming a barrier film between a Cr base film and the vitreous carbon substrate. CONSTITUTION:Since Ti or Ti alloy is suitable as the material of a barrier film, a Ti film 2 of 100nm thickness is formed on a carbon substrate 1 by DC magnetron sputtering. Then a Cr film 3 of 100mum thickness is formed on the Ti film 2 by DC magnetron sputtering, and a CoCr alloy magnetic film 4 of 40nm thickness is formed. Further, a protective film 5 of 20nm thickness is formed on the CoCr alloy magnetic film by DC magnetron sputtering. Then s perfluoropolyether based polar lubricant 'fonblin AM2001' soln. is applied to form a polar lubricant film 6a of 5Angstrom thickness. Then a perfluoropolyether based nonpolar lubricant 'fonblin Z03' soln. is applied thereon to form a nonpolar lubricant film 6b of 20Angstrom thickness. Thus, the magnetic disk is obtd.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium excellent in film adhesion even when dirt such as working waste is present on a substrate by directly providing a film composed of a material constituting a base body or a material consisting essentially of the material on the base body, on the surface of which a texture is formed. SOLUTION: A base layer 3, a magnetic layer 4 and a protective layer 5 are formed continuously on the substrate 2 in this order and further a lubricant layer 6 is formed on the protective layer 5. The substrate 2 is composed of the base body 10 and the film 11 formed directly on the base body 10. The film 11 composed of the material constituting the base body 10 or the material consisting essentially of the material constituting the base body 10 is provided on the texture formed on the surface of the base body 10. By providing the close contact film 11, the effect of the working waste remaining on the base body surface or the surface defect of the base body is eliminated and then since the surface is in remarkably clean state, the magnetic layer or the like formed thereon attains excellent adhesion.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the thin film having excellent durability by executing thin film formation in a gaseous atmosphere contg. compds. contg. H atoms and Ar at the time of forming the thin film by a physical vapor deposition method. CONSTITUTION:The formation of the thin film is executed in the gaseous atmosphere of >=2 kinds contg. the compds. (H2, CH4, C2H6, C2H4, C2H2, etc.) having the H atoms and the Ar at the time of forming the thin film by the physical vapor deposition method. The ratios of the compds. having the H atoms and the Ar are specified to about 50/50 to 1/99 and more preferably to 20/80 to 5/95 and the gaseous pressures to about 1 to 10mTorr and more preferably to about 2 to 5mTorr. The temp. of substrate is kept at about 25-300 deg.C. A glassy carbon target, etc., are used for the target which is the constituting material of the thin film. As a result, the thin film having the excellent durability is formed on the substrate.
