    Abstract: PURPOSE:To quicken the acceleration of a combine and improve working efficiency without lowering the control stability by accelerating the machine at a rate higher than a preset rate according to the thickness of a culm layer until the speed of the machine reaches a preset speed level and, thereafter, accelerating the machine at a preset rate. CONSTITUTION:The apparatus is provided with an engine-load detection means S1 to detect the loaded condition of an engine E and with a vehicle speed control means 100 to automatically operate a driving gear-changer 9 in such a manner as to keep the machine to a preset speed while maintaining the engine load in a preset state. The apparatus is further provided with an operation state detection means S0 to detect whether the combine is in reaping state or not and with a thickness detection means S2 to detect the thickness of a culm layer transported by a transporting apparatus for reaped culms. The machine is accelerated by the control means 100 at a rate higher than a preset rate during the period from the detection of the reaping work state by the means S0 to the time when the thickness of the culm layer detected by the means S2 reaches a preset thickness. The work efficiency can be improved by this procedure.
