    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce unpleasant feeling caused by blowing out cold wind from a blower on the indoor side by operating intermittently an indoor side blower during defrosting operation and shorten defrosting time by increasing heat absorption during defrosting operation. CONSTITUTION:When frost is formed on an outdoor side heat exchanger 3 during room heating operation because the outdoor air temperature is low, a four-way valve 2 is interchanged in order to melt the frost and an outdoor blower 9 is stopped at a fixed tie interval to carry out defrosting operation giving air cooling. At this time a blower 10 at the indoor side is made to issue signal repeatedly. Namely, the operation of a motor 10a is stopped before an indoor side blower 10 enters steady operation and the motor 10a is energized before blast stops, thereby giving intermittent operation to the indoor side blower 10.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make small the space required for installing a heat exchanger without reducing its heat exchanging performance by installing the heat exchanger opposite to a plurality of suction openings at an inclination to at least one of the suction openings and forming a cabinet of the heat exchanger with separate suction side hollow body and blower room. CONSTITUTION:A heat exchanger 2 sits opposite to suction openings 3a, 3b, and 3c with the heat exchanger and inclined to them at angles 4a, 4b, and 4c respectively. A blower 5 generates an air flow 8 to the suction openings 3a, 3b, 3c, the heat exchanger 2, and an air outlet opening 6. With this arrangement the length of the heat exchanger 2 can be made long and the heat exchanging performance of the heat exchanger 2 opposite to the suction opening 3b is secured by the air flow 8 from the suction openings 3a and 3c, even if the installation space of the heat exchanger becomes small because of the tight contact of the suction opening 3b with a wall of a house, etc., and a larger heat exchanger can be used with an outdoor unit of a specified size.
