    Abstract: A sewing machine includes a stud carried by a journal surrounding a tubular needle bar having a lateral opening. A link connected to the journal normally drives the needle bar when the stud is engaged within the needle bar opening. A disconnecting rod within the tubular needle bar is axially displaceable and includes a ramp engageable with a control member, also within the needle bar, to drive the stud from the needle bar opening and thereby disengage the journal from the needle bar.

    Abstract: In order to obtain, in an electronic balance, ranges which are in a predetermined ratio, for example 1:10, there is provided a measuring arm provided with strain gauges adapted to measure the deformation of this arm when it is subjected to a constraint or force. Between the arm and a knife-edge there is disposed a measuring annulus likewise provided with strain gauges adapted to measure the deformation of this annulus when it is subjected to a weighing force. The balance is operated in such a manner that the force or mass of the weight to be measured at the moment of weighing is exerted firstly on the arm via the annulus, until the arm contacts the abutment. This determines the small measuring scale. If the weight is higher than this value, the force is subsequently exerted solely on the annulus which presents a resistance in the region of 10 times greater and determines the second measuring scale.

    Abstract: A zig-zag stitch sewing machine having a laterally displaceable needle, the displacements of the needle being controlled by a cam arrangement through a linkage mechanism, the cam arrangement being actuated by one or more control members, the linkage arrangement including a pivotally mounted slider, the pivotal axis for the slider being provided on a pivotal lever so that the pivotal axis is displaceable, and a connecting rod which is pivotally connected to the mounting for the needle, the connecting rod being displaceable along the slider, means being provided for displacing the pivotal axis of the slider while its free end is immobilized in one of its terminal angular positions, whereby displacement of the end of the connecting rod along the slider causes a needle carrying bar to be displaced between two terminal decentered positions.

    Abstract: A thread-tensioning device of a sewing machine comprises thread-squeezing plates between which the thread passes. A shaft applying pressure to the plates is subjected to the action of a transmission lever which is acted upon by a spring-urged ball which is moved by a control button along an arcuate path from adjacent the pivoting axis of the lever to near an end of the lever. The angle of the lever can be set to enable progressive setting of the thread tension for a constant spring pressure, or with variation of the spring pressure.

    Abstract: A sewing machine has a frame formed of a base, a column, a lower free arm having an upper working surface, an upper arm and a head. A material supporting means in the shape of a retractable shelf is connected to the base by a set of articulated parts, this shelf being displaceable in a vertical direction between an operative level in which it fits around the lower free arm at the working surface thereof, and a retracted level below the lower free arm to allow access thereto. Flaps are hinged to this shelf and can be folded against the frame to form a case therewith or can be folded down to allow access to the machine for operation thereof.
