    Abstract: A method in a caller computing device for associating a telephone call with a caller so that a callee computing device can determine that a telephone call is from the caller is disclosed. An input is received from the caller to place a telephone call to the callee. The telephone call is to be established over a public telephone network. An indication that the caller is to initiate a telephone call with the callee via the public telephone network so that the callee can anticipate that an incoming call will be from the caller is sent, via an out-of-band communication mechanism that is out-of-band with respect to the public telephone network, to the callee computing device. In response to sending the indication, a response to the indication is received via the out-of-band communication mechanism from the callee computing device After receiving the response and after the telephone call has been initiated, upon receiving an indication that the initiated telephone call has been delivered to the callee as reported by the public telephone network, an indication that the delivered telephone call is from the caller so that the callee computing device is aware that the telephone call is from the caller is sent sending via the out-of-band communication mechanism to the callee computing device. Upon receiving an indication that the initiated telephone call has not been delivered to the callee as reported by the public telephone network, an indication that the telephone call has not been delivered to the caller so that the callee computing device is aware that any delivered telephone call is not from the caller is sent via the out-of-band communication mechanism to the callee computing device.

    Abstract: A client-side signaling mechanism that allows a client to control how a telephone call is handled on a call server. The client user can create call routing rules on the client device using a client control component that manages session protocol messages. Once created, the call routing rule(s) created on the client are transmitted to the call server where a call routing component of the call server processes the rule(s) for a call related to the client. When the server receives the rule(s) and determines that the rule(s) are related to an existing call (incoming or currently in-process), the server halts current normal server rules processing for that call and executes the client-created rule(s). In one example, SIP session messages are employed for client control of server-side call forwarding.

    Abstract: A method and system for providing notifications of changes in the presence state of contacts is provided. A notification system allows a user to specify those contacts of interest for whom the user wants to be notified when the contact enters a certain presence state. When presence information is received about a contact, the notificati on system determines whether the contact is a contact of interest as specified by the user. If so, then the notification system determines whether the presence information indicates a change in presence state that is of interest to the user. If the contact and the change in presence state are of interest to the user, the notification system notifies the user.
