    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To industrially advantageously produce a sulfonamide compound at a short time in high yield while suppressing the generation of by-product by regulating the pH of a reaction liquid in the reaction of an aminohydroxy compound with a sulfonyl halide. SOLUTION: When reacting a compound of formula I (X1 is H, a halogen or the like; Z1 is H, an alkyl or the like), (e.g. 4-aminophenol) with a compound of formula II (Y1 is a halogen; R1 to R5 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl or the like), (e.g. benzenesulfonyl chloride) in a solvent (e.g. water), the pH of the reaction liquid is regulated so as to be 2-9 to provide the objective compound of formula III (X2 is the same as X1; Z2 is the same as Z1; R11 to R15 are the same as R1 to R5 respectively), [e.g. N-(4-hydroxyphenyl) benzenesulfonamide]. The regulation of the pH of the reaction liquid is preferably carried out by using a basic compound (e.g. sodium hydroxide.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a p-N-substituted aminobenzaldehyde in a high yield by reacting a Vilsmeier complex with an N-substituted aniline in an organic solvent, hydrolyzing the reaction product and subsequently extracting off an o-substituted isomer with an acidic aqueous solution. SOLUTION: This method for producing a p-N-substituted aminobenzaldehyde comprises reacting (B) a Vilsmeier complex [a complex obtained by reacting (i) a secondary acid amide (for example, dimethylformamide) with (ii) a halogenating reagent (for example, phosgene)] with (C) an N-substituted aniline (for example, N,N-dimethylaniline) in (A) an organic solvent (for example, 1,2-dichloroethane) preferably at 0-100 deg.C, hydrolyzing the reaction product, and subsequently extracting off an o-position isomer with an acidic aqueous solution (for example, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid or methane sulfonic acid) from the hydrolysate. In the component B, the component(ii)is preferably used in an amount equivalent to the component (i) or in a larger amount than that of the component (i). The component C is preferably used in an amount of 2 to 10 fold moles that of the component (i). The component D is also preferably used in an amount of 0.1-3.0 fold weight that of the component A.

A reaction solvent/a solvent different from the reaction solvent is removed under reduced pressure while dripping the solution into water/the solvent different from the reaction solvent to give a water slurry solution, which is filtered, washed and dried to isolate the objective polyhydroxycarboxylic acid.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a phthalide compound useful as a coloring agent for coloring recording materials by subjecting triphenylmethane compound to oxidation reaction in the presence of urea. SOLUTION: A triphenylmethane compound of formula II is oxidized with an oxidizing agent in an aqueous solvent in the presence of urea and a metal compound to provide the objective phthalide compound of formula I (R to R are each an alkyl or R and R , R and R and R and R may mutually be connected to form a heterocyclic ring with N). Air, oxygen, hydrogen peroxide or the like is used as the oxidizing agent and copper sulfate or the like is used as the metal compound. Urea is used in an amount of 0.1-4.8 molar ratio based on the compound of formula II and the metal compound is used in an amount of 0.0001-1.0 molar ratio based on the compound of formula II and the reaction is carried out at 40-120 deg.C. The oxidizing agent is used in an equimolar amount or above in the case of oxygen or oxygen-containing gas or in an amount of 1-1.2 mol in the case of hydrogen peroxide based on 1 mol compound of formula II. Thereby, the compound of formula I is obtained in a short time at a low cost in high purity and yield by a simple operation.
