Abstract: The present invention relates to solid catalyst components for olefin polymerization formed by prepolymerizing at least two types of alpha -olefin on an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising a solid titanium catalyst component, an organometallic compound catalyst component, and if necessary, an electron donor, to olefin polymerization catalyst comprising said soild catalyst component for olefin polymerization, an organometallic compound catalyst component, and if necessary, an electron donor, and to processes for olefin polymerization using said olefin polymerization catalyst. According to the present invention, there can be manufactured olefin polymer particles having low adhesive among the polymer particles as well as good particle distribution and excellent granular properties even when they contain a large amount of an amorphous olefin polymer portion.

Abstract: A catalyst for polymerization of an olefin, said catalyst being formed from [A] a solid titanium catalyst component comprising magnesium, titanium, halogen and an electron donor as essential ingredients, [B] an organoaluminum compound catalyst component, and [C] an electron donor catalyst component comprising at least two electron donors including an electron donor (1) and an electron donor (2), the MFR (a) of homopolypropylene obtained by using the electron donor (1) together with the solid titanium catalyst component [A] and the organoaluminum compound catalyst component [B] has the following relation to the MFR (b) of homopolypropylene obtained by using the electron donor (2) under the same polymerization conditions as in the case of using the electron donor (1) log [MFR (b)/MFR (a)]>/=1.5. This catalyst can give an olefin polymer having a broad molecular weight. Also provided is a process for polymerizing or copolymerizing an olefin in the presence of the above catalyst.

Abstract: A process for producing an olefin polymer or copolymer which comprises polymerizing or copolymerizing olefins or copolymerizing an olefin with up to 5 mole% of a diolefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising a titanium catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium, halogen and an electron donor, an organoaluminum catalyst component and a third catalyst component, characterized in that said catalyst is composed of (A) a titanium catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium, halogen and an electron donor essential ingredients, said electron donor being elected from the group consisting of (a) esters of polyfunctional compounds selected from polycarboxylic acids having 5 to 36 carbon atoms, polyhydroxy compounds having 6 to 28 carbon atoms and hydroxy-substituted carboxylic acids having 10 to 28 carbon atoms, (b) monocarboxylic acid esters of the formula RCOOR min in which each of R and R min represents a hydrocarbyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms at least one of them represents a branched-chain group, an alicyclic group, or an aryl ring-containing linear group and (c) carbonic acid esters having 3 to 18 carbon atoms, (B) an organoaluminium compound, and (C) an ester of phosphorous acid with an alcohol having 2 to 4 carbon atoms; and a catalyst composition used therefor. f

Abstract: A solid titanium catalyst component (A) of a catalyst system useful in the polymerization of olefins or copolymerization of two or more olefins or one or more olefins and a diene is prepared by contacting a liquid hydrocarbon solution of (i) a magnesium compound, such as magnesium chloride, with (ii) a liquid titanium compound, such as TiCl4, or a solution of a titanium compound in a hydrocarbon solvent, to form a solid product. The solid product is formed in the presence of (D) an electron donor, e.g. methyl formate, acetic acid, acetic anhydride, acetone, methyl ether, butyl Cellosolve, dimethyl carbonate, methyl silicate. The solid product is also contacted with a polycarboxylic acid ester, e.g. diethyl methylsuccinate. The polymerization or copolymerization of the olefin is carried out in the presence of the solid titanium catalyst (A) and (B) an organometallic compound of a Group I to III metal and (C) an organic silicon compound having an Si-O-C bond. Granular or spherical polyethylene, polypropylene, poly(butene-1), poly(4-methylpentene-1), etc. are produced in high yield, with good flowability, high bulk density, and narrow particle size distribution. The polymers can be produced over a wide range of melt index values without reduction in stereospecificity. Catalyst activity is retained with passage of time.

Abstract: Improved process for producing olefin polymer or copolymer characterized by using (I) a solid catalyst component (A) which is the product of reaction of (a) a magnesium compound in the liquid state having no reducing ability with (b) a titanium compound in the liquid state in the presence of an electron donor having no active hydrogen, said magnesium compound (a) being a liquid magnesium compound or a solution of a magnesium compound or being obtained by contacting the magnesium compound with at least one electron donor selected from the group consisting of alcohols, organic carboxylic acids, aldehydes, amines and mixtures thereof, or the product of reaction of the magnesium compound (a) with the titanium compound (b) in the absence of the electron donor having no active hydrogen atom followed by treatment with the electron donor having no active hydrogen atom, and (II) the mole ratio of the compound (a) to the compound (b), calculated as metal atoms, is at least about 2.
