Abstract: The latching system of the present invention uses a ribbed (301, 302) latch (300) molded into the battery housing, a depression latch (504) molded into the radiotelephone housing, and rail connectors (220, 320) molded into the radiotelephone housing to connect a battery (350) to a radiotelephone (200). The battery housing slides along the rail connectors until the battery housing latch (300) engages into the radiotelephone latch (210). The battery housing (350) is removed from the radiotelephone housing (200) by depressing the upper portion (300) of the battery housing latch, thus rotating it out of the depression latch (200) and allowing the battery housing to be slid off the radiotelephone housing (200).

Abstract: The hinge is for a foldable telephone having a body portion and a flip element portion, the hinge being capable of maintaining the flip element portion in at least two positions of rotation relative to the body portion. A first position is parallel to a front surface plane of the body portion and a second position at an obtuse angle to the front surface plane of the body portion, the hinge comprising a first cylindrical hinge shaft rotatably coupling the flip element portion to the body portion. - First and second recesses are disposed in the wall of the first cylindrical hinge shaft, the first and second recesses having planar bottom surfaces, the plane of the planar bottom surface of the first recess intersecting the plane of the planar bottom surface of the second recess an acute angle. A first cam is disposed within the flip element portion and having at least one flat surface which contacts the planar bottom surface of the first recess when the flip element portion is in the first position and which contacts the planar bottom surface of the second recess when the flip element portion is in the second position.

The battery pack and method for forming the battery pack reduce the weight and complexity in manufacturing.
