Abstract: Here is provided processes for producing at least one liquid transportation fuel component. In a first mode of running one of the processes, a hydrocarbon feed comprising nitrogen impurities is subjected to a hydroprocessing in reactor A in the presence of a hydrotreatment catalyst A to obtain a hydroprocessing effluent A, which is subjected, after degassing, to a catalytic hydroprocessing in reactor B to obtain a hydroteratment effluent B, which is fractionated, optionally after degassing, to obtain at least one liquid transportation fuel component, preferably at least an aviation fuel component. In the process, parameters indicative of deactivation of the hydrotreatment catalyst A are monitored and when these reach predetermined values, the process is switched to a second mode of running wherein the order of reactors A and B is changed so that a degassed hydroprocessing effluent B is fed to the reactor A.

In the process, a paraffinic hydrocarbon feed is provided and subjected to hydroisomerisation to obtain a hydroisomerisation effluent; from which hydroisomerisation effluent a recycle stream is separated and subjected to hydrocracking to obtain a recycle effluent, the hydroisomerisation effluent and the recycle effluent being fed to fractionation, from which fractionation at least one liquid transportation fuel component is recovered.

Abstract: A process for converting levulinic acid to gammavalerolactone with increased selectivity is described. (see above formula) The described process for producing gammavalerolactone is a two-stage process, comprising: at a first stage, converting levulinic acid with catalytic hydrogenation into 4-hydroxy pentanoic acid (i.e. 4-hydroxyvaleric acid) and gammavalerolactone; and at a second stage, reacting said 4-hydroxy pentanoic acid into gammavalerolactone under conditions preventing further hydrogenation. The process is based on the recognition of the reaction intermediate, 4-hydroxyvaleric acid, and improved conversion thereof.

Abstract: Provided herein is a method of purifying a recycled or renewable organic material, wherein the recycled or renewable organic material comprises one or more impurities selected from a group consisting of silicon compounds, phosphorous, Cl and sterols, comprising the steps of (a) providing the recycled or renewable organic material; (b) optionally pre heat treating the recycled or renewable organic material at 180 to 325°C, and optionally adding acid before or after the pre heat treatment process, and optionally filtering the pre heat treated recycled or renewable organic material after the pre heat treatment; (c) heat treating the recycled or renewable organic material at 100 to 450°C, optionally in the presence of an adsorbent, optionally adding water before or during the heat treatment process, and optionally adding acid before or after the heat treatment process, and optionally filtering the heat treated recycled or renewable organic material after the heat treatment; (d) optionally evaporating volatile silicon compounds from the heat treated recycled or renewable organic material compounds thereby reducing the silicon content of the heat treated recycled or renewable organic material; (e) optionally thermally cracking the recycled or renewable organic material thereby reducing the oxygen and phosphorous content of the heat treated recycled or renewable organic material, and optionally removing volatiles from the thermally cracked recycled or renewable organic material, and optionally removing solids/precipitates from the recycled or renewable organic material; and (f) hydrotreating the heat treated recycled or renewable organic material in a presence of a hydrotreating catalyst; to obtain purified hydrotreated recycled or renewable organic material.

Abstract: Provided herein is a method of purifying a recycled or renewable organic material (10), wherein the recycled or renewable organic material (10) comprises more than 1 ppm silicon as silicon compounds and/or more than 10 ppm phosphorous as phosphorous compounds, comprising the steps of (a) providing a feed of the lipid material; (b) optionally pre heat treating 20) the recycled or renewable organic material (10) at 180 to 325°C and optionally adding acid before or after the heat treatment process and optionally filtering the pre heat treated recycled or renewable organic material; (c) heat treating (40) the recycled or renewable organic material (10) in the presence of an adsorbent at 180 to 325°C and filtering (50) the heat treated recycled or renewable organic material, and optionally adding acid before or after the heat treatment process; (d) optionally blending the heat treated recycled or renewable organic material with a hydrocarbon or lipid-based stream; (e) optionally evaporating (30) the volatile silicon compounds from the heat treated recycled or renewable organic material; and (f) hydrotreating (60) the lipid material in a presence of a hydrotreating catalyst; to obtain purified hydrotreated recycled or renewable organic material (61) comprising less than 20%, preferably less than 10%, more preferably less than 5%, of the original silicon content of the recycled or renewable organic material provided in step (a) and/or less than 30% of the original phosphorous content of the recycled or renewable organic material provided in step (a).

Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of hydrotreatment of biological oil, in particular to methods for producing renewable base oil and a diesel oil from low-value biological oils. It was found that low-value biological oils containing free fatty acids and fatty acid esters can be processed into a renewable base oil and a renewable diesel oil in an efficient manner by first separating at least part of the saturated free fatty acids from the feedstock and then processing separately this saturated free acid feed in a ketonisation reaction followed by hydrodeoxygenation and hydroisomerisation reactions to yield a renewable base oil stream. The remaining free fatty acid depleted feed may be processed in a separate hydrodeoxygenation and hydroisomerisation step to yield a renewable diesel stream. Splitting the feedstock into two separate streams, where one is a saturated free fatty acid stream provides surprising advantages compared to a combined treatment of the entire feedstock.
