    Abstract: The present invention is related to a method for purification of biological feedstock (70), in particular reducing or removing nitrogen containing compounds therein, and an apparatus thereto. The method comprises subjecting the feedstock (70) to a first separation step (80) for obtaining a first fraction (90) comprising free fatty acids and nitrogen containing compounds, and collecting the residue (85) comprising acylglycerols. The first fraction (90) is reacted with glycerol (100) to obtain acylglycerols from the free fatty acid therein. This fraction is further subjected to a second separation step (120) for obtaining a second fraction (125) comprising nitrogen containing compounds. The remains (130) from the second separation (120) contains formed acylglycerols and is collected.

The process involves hydrotreatment of feedstock (104) in a first hydrotreating bed (105) arranged downstream of a polishing bed (102). After the first hydrotreating bed, the gaseous phase is removed and the liquid hydrotreated phase is fed to the polishing bed (102) arranged upstream of the first hydrotreating bed together with fresh hydrogen (120), which further reduces any nitrogen impurities in the polished hydrocarbon product. Nitrogen impurities are removed from this hydrocarbon product causing an improved cloud point after isomerisation. The specific arrangement makes efficient use of fresh hydrogen for polishing, providing a polished hydrocarbon product rich in dissolved hydrogen, where part of such product can be used as hydrocarbon diluent in the downstream hydrotreating bed, and/or withdrawn between the polishing and hydrotreating bed and isomerised in an isomerisation reactor.
