    Abstract: Making a passenger handrail (30) includes splicing together ends (58) of handrail stock. A disclosed device (50) includes mounting members (54), (56) for positioning the ends (58) of the handrail stock relative to each other before splicing them together. Example mounting members (54), (56) include position control members (80) having at least one tooth (82) for engaging a tooth (36) on a driven surface (34) of the handrail. A disclosed example includes a mover (62) having a threaded rod (66) that causes a follower (68) to move with the mounting member (54) for adjusting a position of the mounting member and the corresponding end (58) of the handrail stock within very stringent tolerance requirements.

    Abstract: A passenger conveyor (20) includes a handrail drive (40) for propelling a handrail (30). A suspension (100) associated with the drive (40) supports a weight of a corresponding portion of the handrail (30) in the vicinity of the drive device (40). In a disclosed example, the suspension (100) includes at least one cantilevered member (104, 120) for engaging a lip portion (64) of an inner surface on the handrail (30). The suspension (100) maintains a corresponding portion of the handrail (30) in close proximity to a drive member (42) such as a toothed belt to ensure proper engagement between the drive member (42) and the handrail (30).

    Abstract: A power system (10) operates a plurality of hoist motors (18a, 18b, 18c), each of which controls movement of one of a plurality of elevators (12a, 12b, 12c). The power system (10) includes a power bus (11) and a converter (22) connected across the power bus (11) for converting alternating current (AC) power from an AC power source (20) to direct current (DC) power and delivering the DC power to the power bus (11). The power system (10) also includes a plurality of inverters (26a, 26b, 26c) connected across the power bus (11). Each inverter (26a, 26b, 26c) is connected to a hoist motor (18a, 18b, 18c) and is operable to drive the hoist motor (18a, 18b, 18c) when the hoist motor (18a, 18b, 18c) is motoring by converting the DC power from the power bus (11) into AC power. Each inverter (26a, 26b, 26c) is further operable to convert AC power produced by the hoist motor (18a, 18b, 18c) when the motor is generating to DC power and to deliver the DC power to the power bus (11). A controller (31) manages power on the power bus (11) by controlling operation of the converter (22) and the inverters (26a, 26b, 26c) to drive a motoring hoist motor with power delivered to the power bus (11) by the converter (22) and generating hoist motors.

    Abstract: A plurality of stepchain links ( 30, 130, 230 ) of a passenger conveyor system ( 20 ) connected to form a continuous loop are from die cast or from stamped or laser cut metal. Each stepchain link ( 30, 130, 230 ) includes a plurality of teeth ( 32, 132, 232 ) made of a single piece of material that engage a drive member ( 36 ). In one example, a plate of injection molded plastic teeth ( 294 ) are snapped onto the links to reduce corrosion.
