    Abstract: 1 PHN 8981 The invention relates to an electrical high-pressure metal vapour discharge lamp provided with a discharge tube containing sodium and mercury as well as xenon. In the operating condition of the lamp the xenon pressure in the discharge tube is approximately 1600 torr. In accordance with the invention the discharge tube is provided with a narrow external stripshaped coating extending along substantially the entire length of the discharge tube. This strip-shaped coating consists of 80% Molybdenum, 10% A1203 and 10% CaO by volume. The strip-shaped coating acts as the starting electrode of the discharge tube.

    Abstract: In a colour display tube of the post focusing type the colour selection electrode comprises a first and a second system of lens electrodes. A lens electrode belonging to the first system is connected by means of diffusion bond to one of the metallized sides of an electrically insulating member which is metallized on two sides. A lens electrode belonging to the second system is formed either by the other metallized side of the insulating member or is secured to the other metallized side of the insulating member also by means of a diffusion bond. The colour selection electrode is manufactured by starting from an insulating foil which is metallized on two sides and which is connected on the side by a diffusion connection to each lens electrode belonging to the first system and which is provided on the other side with each electrode belonging to the second system, the desired apertures in the colour selection electrode being obtained by locally etching away at least the metallized foil by means of a selective etching process.

    Abstract: A method of producing a low-pressure gas discharge lamp in which a body of a solid material having a thin, structure of filaments permeable to the gas discharge such as glass wool is disposed. Coherence is given to the filaments by compressing them whereafter they are sucked into the lamp envelope. Compressing, knitting together and producing the wire-shaped elements is done in a funnel-shaped space which is connected at its constricted side to the tubular discharge space.

    Abstract: 1355307 Glass-metal seals PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 June 1972 [29 June 1971] 29843/72 Heading C1M [Also in Division H1] Conductor arrays 4 and 5 of a gas discharge display panel are secured to a first plate 1 and/or a light-pervious second plate 2 by glass enamel 6 which has a lower melting point than the material of the corresponding plate. Both plates 1 and 2 may be of window glass. The enamel 6 may cover the edges of the conductors 4 and 5 to prevent discharges occurring between adjacent conductors of the same array. A suspension of the enamel applied either to the conductors or to the plates 1 or 2 is melted when securing the conductor in position. The conductor arrays are preferably formed by photo-chemically etching slots in a metal plate or sheet, e.g. of Fe-Cr-Ni alloy to leave the conductors with their ends connected together by two sides of a rectangular frame formed by the remaining parts of the plate. The two sides of the frame parallel to the conductors are first removed and the conductors placed under tension, e.g. by springs attached to the other two sides of the frame, these sides being removed when the conductors have been secured to the plates. In a modified construction (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) the conductors 5 are wires of Fe-Cr of circular cross-section which are each completely covered with a resistive layer, e.g. of semi-conductive glass, which may also be used to secure the wires to the plate 2.

    Abstract: For thermocompression sealing at least one of the materials to be joined is provided with an oxide skin before or during the sealing operation. The oxide skin can be formed, for example by firing in air. It has been found that the method is particularly advantageous for seals between a CrNi-alloy and, for example a second element which consists of aluminium, for example the seal between an Al entrance window and a CrNi-steel envelope of an X-ray intensifier tube. Notably by addition of an intermediate material, in particular aluminium, seals can thus be realized between many materials.

The display window (11) of a display tube is manufactured from a plate (21) having grooves (22), which plate is fused to a plate (20), so that ducts (25) are present in the display window (11). The phosphor screen (14) is present on the inside of plate (20). The ducts (25) communicate at one end with a common supply duct (26) having an inlet aperture (27) and communicate at the other end with a common exhaust duct (28) having an outlet aperture (29). A coolant is forced through the ducts (25) for cooling the phosphor screen (14).
