Abstract:
A banner for a communication device that changes according to the current date is provided. The banner is displayed (13) during standby mode of operation of the communication device. The system for dynamically displaying the banner includes a calendar (21) which has a number of dates. Each of the number of dates has a unique message associated with it. The system also includes software (22a) that compares the current date with the number of dates from the calendar (21). The software (22a) then determines whether the current date matches one of the number of dates from the calendar (21). The display screen (23) of the communication device displays the unique message if the current date matches one of the number of dates from the calendar (21). If the current date does not match one of the number of dates from the calendar (21), the display screen (23) of the communication device displays a default message (14). The calendar (21) may be capable of being edited by a user of the communication device such that additional unique messages may be assigned to any date from the calendar (21). A communication service provider for the communication device may pre-determine the unique message to be displayed for each of the number of dates from the calendar (21).

Abstract:
A data storage area allows a user of a wireless communication device to enter data to be processed and transmitted as a series of dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) tones. A wireless communication device transmits call origination over the traffic channel and can transmit DTMF tones over the traffic channel. The user may enter data into a storage area along with an indication that the entered data should be processed as DTMF tones. Data entered as DTMF tones is processed and transmitted over the traffic channel as a series of DTMF tones. A data storage area may have predetermined locations wherein data stored in the predetermined locations are processed as DTMF tones. Alternatively, a data flag or other indicator may be associated with the data to indicate processing as DTMF tones.
Abstract:
A wireless computer device, such as a mobile telephone, that receives attempted communication connections, such as phone calls, across a wireless network and can respond thereto without the user directly entering the communication. The wireless device classifies the attempted communication connection, such as through receipt of Caller ID, and performs a predetermined response to a communication connection attempt based upon the classification, such as blocking the call, answering with a prerecorded message, or sending data to the calling device.
Abstract:
A wireless device comprising means for displaying; and means for storing comprising an application catalog having a list of a plurality of applications displayable on the display, wherein the list is arranged based upon one or more predetermined criteria, and a method and apparatus of obtaining an application to download onto a wireless device, the method comprising: requesting an application catalog from an application server on a wireless network, the application catalog comprising a list of a plurality of applications arranged based upon one or more predetermined criteria; receiving the application catalog; and presenting the application catalog on a user interface of the wireless device.
Abstract:
A system, method, and program for tracking usage and reporting available resource information of a wireless communication device, such as a mobile telephone. A server, wireless device, or both, keeps a record of available resources for the wireless device. In one embodiment, a server receives a request for an application from the wireless device, enables the application, and tracks the time for which the application is enabled. After the application is stopped, the server adjusts the record of available resources to reflect the time consumed by the application and provides the updated available resource information to the wireless handset. The wireless device can assist in such monitoring of available resources, with either data storage, processing, or both.

Abstract:
A system for automatically reconfiguring a mobile telephone based on geographic location. In the illustrative embodiment, the invention includes a storing unit (40) and an execution unit (70). The storing unit (40) allows the user to save a particular location and the desired configurations corresponding to that location. The execution unit (70) monitors the position of the telephone and, upon entering a saved location, executes the configurations corresponding to that location. The execution unit (70) also returns the configurations to their previous settings after the telephone has exited from the saved location.
Abstract:
The contact information manager manages contact information based on information automatically obtained through use of a communications device. The contact information manager stores information about contacts and allows options for retrieval of the contact information. Contact information is managed by modifying values in one or more dynamic fields with call information obtained through use of the communications device. The contact information is retrieved by a user selecting to retrieve information and providing a retrieval selection indicating a preference of format of the presentation of the retrieved contact information.
