    Abstract: RCA 75,226 A self-converging deflection yoke having toroidally-wound vertical deflection coils incorporates a pair of magnetically permeable field formers mounted on either side of the yoke. The field formers shunt a portion of the external field flux to the vicinity of the electron gun assembly where they form a pincushionshaped field which aids in vertical coma correction. In one embodiment, a yoke comprising planar-wound vertical coils incorporates both coma-correcting rear field formers and a pair of front crossarm assemblies for providing side-pincushion correction. The resultant yoke provides covergence of electron beams free of coma and sidepincushion distortion with reduced sensitivity to transverse motion. In another embodiment, similar results are obtained without the front crossarms by vertical deflection coil having a nonradial winding configuration.

    Abstract: A color television display system is described which requires no dynamic convergence apparatus for small and medium size screen color picture tubes and which requires relatively simple dynamic convergence apparatus for large screen color picture tubes. The color picture tube includes an electron gun assembly for producing three adjacent horizontal in-line coplanar beams. The electron gun assembly includes a common three-aperture beam forming electrode for establishing precise alignment of the beams. The beams are substantially converged at all points in the scanned raster as they are deflected by a deflection yoke providing negative horizontal isotropic astigmatism and positive vertical isotropic astigmatism. The gun assembly includes magnetic shield members disposed around the two outside beam paths to shield those beams from a portion of the deflection field so that the rasters scanned by the three beams are of the same size. In addition, the color picture tube includes a faceplate having repeating groups of three different color phosphor strips and an aperture mask including a plurality of elongated slit apertures disposed adjacent the phosphor strips to enhance the light output from the picture tube.

    Abstract: RCA 73,015 DEFLECTION YOKE WITH PERMANENT MAGNET RASTER CORRECTION A deflection yoke of the self-converging type utilizing pincushion-shaped horizontal and barrel-shaped vertical deflection fields for converging three in-line electron beams includes magnets disposed near the top and bottom beam exit end of the yoke and respectively poled to produce flux of the same polarity as the vertical deflection field at the top and bottom portions of the raster. A second pair of magnets disposed inside the flared inner surface of the yoke at the top and bottom approximately at the center of the yoke length are respectively poled for producing flux which is of the opposite polarity of the vertical deflection field at the top and bottom portions of the raster, the two pairs of magnets cooperating with the deflection field for correcting North-South pincushion distortion with substantially no effect on the beam convergence.

    Abstract: A deflection yoke of the self-converging type uses pincushion-shaped horizontal deflection fields and barrel-shaped vertical deflection fields for converging three in-line electron beams and includes a first pair of magnets disposed near the top and bottom of the beam exit end of the yoke. Each magnet is poled to produce a field having the same polarity as the vertical deflection field during the interval in which the electron beam is deflected towards the magnet. A second pair of magnets is disposed at the top and bottom of the inside of the flared inner surface of the yoke at a generally central position between the beam entrance and beam exit ends of the yoke, each of which is poled for producing a field of a polarity opposite to that of the vertical deflection field when deflecting the beam towards the respective magnet. The first and second magnet pairs coact to correct North-South pincushion distortion without substantial effect on the convergence. A third pair of magnets is disposed at the top and bottom of the inside flare of the yoke between the beam entrance end of the yoke and the second pair of magnets and is poled in the same direction as the first magnet pair. The third magnet pair reduces the sensitivity of the convergence to the position of the deflection yoke relative to the electron beams.

At least one leg of the bridge includes at least two unidirectional conducting devices and means for biasing at least one of the devices for conducting before the other for altering the current slope through the load for more closely approximating a parabolic current waveform.
