Abstract: Disclosed is an inlet manifold member for a centrifugal fan in a CPAP breathing or ventilation device with two concentric outlets for better mixing of breathing gases. The inlet member includes a first inlet for receiving a first fluid flow of air and a second inlet for receiving a second fluid flow of oxygen, the inlet member defining a first fluid flow path for the first fluid flow and a second fluid flow path for the second fluid flow, and comprising a first and second outlet, for respectively the first and second paths, the first outlet being of a ring like shape, the second outlet being arranged coaxially to the first inlet and/or being surrounded by the generally ring shaped first outlet. A housing has at least one inlet housing part being provided with the first fluid flow path outlet and the second fluid flow path outlet. A filter element extends over the whole cross section of the first fluid flow path.

Abstract: A respiratory mask assembly for delivering breathable gas to a patient includes a rigid frame 20 having a front surface and a rear surface adapted in use to face the patient, the frame defining rigid inner and outer walls extending from the rear surface and spaced to define a channel 26 there-between, the channel including a bottom surface defined by the frame and having a shape including a top region to engage the patient's nasal bridge, a bottom region, and two cheek regions that connect the top region and the bottom region, wherein the top region and the bottom region are generally parallel to each other. The inner wall 28 includes an inner surface facing the channel that includes at least a first protruding portion 26a that protrudes into the channel. The frame, the inner wall, the outer wall, the channel bottom and the first protruding portion are formed in one piece. The mask includes a cushion 40 that is removably attachable to the frame such that the cushion and frame are repeatably engagable with and disengagable from one another, the cushion including a flexible side wall 215 to be inserted into the channel of the frame until the side wall contacts the bottom surface of the channel and is positioned between the rigid inner and outer walls of the frame, thereby forming a sealed connection therewith. The cushion side wall has a shape that matches the shape of the channel, and an interior surface 215a that engages the first protruding portion provided on the interior surface of the inner wall of the channel when the cushion and frame are engaged with one another. Upon assembling the cushion and the frame, the interior surface and the first protruding portion engage one another to deform the side wall in the vicinity of the interior surface and provide a retaining force to help maintain the sealed connection between the cushion and the frame so that the cushion is sealed and retained relative to the frame without an additional retaining member.

Abstract: A nasal mask assembly (10) for nasal CPAP therapy of a patient comprising: (i) a frame (20); (ii) a silicone nasal seal (40) repeatedly attachable to and detachable from the frame; (iii) a rotatable elbow (60) coupled to the frame; (iv) a headgear assembly (80) including relatively flexible headstraps (84), and (v) a stiffening support structure (92) extending from the frame to assist in stabilisation of the nasal seal. The stiffening support structure is made of a relatively rigid material compared to the relatively flexible headstraps. The stiffening support structure has a degree of flexibility in one direction such that variations in patient physiology can be accommodated, the stiffening support structure being stiffer in another direction generally orthogonal to the one direction to resist vertical rotation of the frame.
