    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and accurately obtain an odor index without depending upon a functional test. SOLUTION: A plurality of detected outputs of a sample gas are acquired by a plurality of odor sensors 29 having different responding characteristics. An odor sorting processor 42 judges which an odor of the gas belongs to any of a predetermined plurality of categories of the odor of the gas based on the outputs. When the odor index is calculated from the detected output, the same regression straight line can be utilized at each category of the odor. Then, an odor index calculator 43 utilizes a regression coefficient previously decided at each category of the odor, and calculates the index.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high reproducibility and to shorten a measuring time. SOLUTION: Before sample gas is introduced into a flow cell 12 equipped with a gas sensor 13 having a metal oxide semiconductor as a responsive membrane through a flow channel 2, the flow cell 12 and a flow channel 8 are connected by a changeover valve 11 to introduce reference gas. When the reference gas is introduced, the base resistance of the gas sensor 13 is stabilized regardless of the base resistance just before the introduction of the reference gas. Therefore, it is unnecessary to wait until the base resistance is restored spontaneously and the measurement that is high in reproducibility can be performed.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the judgment of the life of an oxide semiconductor sensor. SOLUTION: After instrumentation air is connected to a sample gas supplying part 2, the sample gas supplying part 2 is connected to a collecting pipe 8 through a three-way valve V1, and the collecting pipe 8 is connected to a sensor cell 16 through a three-way valve V2. The instrumentation air is supplied to the sensor cell 16 by a sample gas supplying part 4. The voltage value VH to be applied to a heater 18 is controlled by a sensor temperature control part 22 to change the temperature of a sensor 20. The sensor resistance value Rs is measured in a plurality of voltage values VH, and a graph showing the relation between voltage value VH and sensor resistance value Rs is formed by CPU 24 to calculate dRs/dVh value at the peak. A prescribed threshold is set on the basis of the initial dRs/dVH value, and the dRs/dVH value is periodically measured to judge whether the value is lower than the threshold or not, whereby the life of the sensor is judged.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the thermal stability of a gas sensor which uses a conductive polymer membrane. SOLUTION: Two comb-shaped electrodes 3, 3 are formed on a glass substrate 1, and a conductive polymer membrane which is composed of poly(3'-n-octyl-2,2'; 5',2"-terthiophene) is formed on the surface of the electrodes 3, 3 as a sensitive membrane 7. The conductive polymer membrane is doped with FeCl3 as a dopant. Since side chains exist every two residual groups in the poly(3'-n-octyl-2,2'; 5',2"-terthiphene), a spatial margin in which the dopant exists is obtained. In addition, since the side chains are situated regularly as compared with poly(3'-n- octyl-2,2'-bithiophene), the random property of the distribution of the dopant is reduced. When the poly(3'-n-octyl-2,2'; 5',2"-terthiphene) is used for the sensitive membrane, the thermal stability of a gas sensor is enhanced.

In the case that a temperature detected by this thermistor 6 is lower than a freezing-up temperature, the heat absorbing and generating element 2 is operated until the temperature measured by the thermistor 6 is decreased only by a predetermined amount and when the descending time required for descending temperature is lower than a predetermined frost formation interface value, it is judged that there occurs a frost formation state and in turn when the descending time is higher than the predetermined freezing-up interface value, it is judged that the freezing-up state occurs and further when the descending time is higher than the front formation interface value and lower than the freezing-up interface value, it is judged that neither frost nor ice is adhered to it.

SOLUTION: A base sheet 4 having a heat generating resistor 2 and a thermistor 3 is arranged in the vicinity of a heat-exchanger. When temperature detected by the thermistor 3 is lower than a freezing temperature, the heat generating resistor 2 is caused to generate heat in a specified time ratio until temperature measured by the thermistor 3 is increased by a given value. When an increase time required for the increase of the temperature is higher than a given ice boundary value, it is decided that a freezing state is produced. When the increase time is lower than the ice boundary value and higher than a given frost boundary value, it is decided that a frosting state is produced. When the increase time is lower than the frost boundary value, it is decided that neither frost nor ice is adhered.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a highly reliable analyzer which is compact and has no movable part by modulating the intensity of sample cell passing light by using a modulator composed of a thick film liquid crystal cell where ferroelectric liquid crystal is sealed between opposing transparent electrodes. CONSTITUTION: Infrared rays having the absorbing band wave length of a measuring object component after passing through a filter 12, receive absorption according to an object component quantity of a sample in a sample cell 14, and are detected by an infrared ray detector 15. In order to distinguish this detecting signal from a stray light component, the infrared rays passing through the sample cell 14 are modulated by a modulator 13. The modulator 13 is composed of two silicon boards 131 and 132, spacers 134 to hold the problem of both constant and ferroelectric liquid crystal 133 sealed between the boards 131 and 132. The board 131 is connected to a gland, and the board 132 is connected to a voltage impressing circuit 137, and polarity reversing rectangular pulse voltage is impressed on the liquid crystal 133. The duty ratio of this pulse voltage is adjusted to a value on which a degree of modulation becomes maximum between 55 to 90%.
