Abstract: PURPOSE:To automatically finish a self-diagnostic operation even when a cassette is loaded at the time of starting self-diagnosis on dynamic mechanical elements of a reel motor, etc., and to automatically make the loading state of the cassette after finishing the self-diagnostic operation. CONSTITUTION:When a self-diagnostic command of dynamic mechanical system elements of the reel motor 21, etc., is detected in the case of the cassette 4 that is loaded, this cassette 4 is moved into a semiloading state position not to give an effect to the cassette 4 by these dynamic mechanical system elements, and afterward, the self-diagnosis is performed, and then after finishing the self-diagnosis, the cassette 4 is automatically brought back into the loading state position again from the semiloading state position. By this method, even when the cassette 4 is loaded in a casing 1 at the time of commencing the self-diagnosis, the self-diagnostic operation can automatically be finished, and also the cassette 4 can automatically be brought under the loading state after finishing the self-diagnostic operation.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To automatically change modes in accordance with a recording and reproducing rate requested by an external device by detecting the rate requested by the external device and changing circuit constants of individual part circuits in accordance with this rate. CONSTITUTION:An external clock signal is frequency-divided by a frequency divider 34 with a prescribed frequency division ratio. A frequency division clock signal outputted from this frequency divider 34 is supplied to a counter 36 to count the number of clocks for each prescribed period. According to the number of clocks counted by this counter 36 for each prescribed period, a recording and reproducing rate requested from the exterior is detected. Then, when a CPU 38 is being supplied with an automatic selecting signal out of an automatic/selecting signal, circuit constants of individual circuits of a recording/reproducing circuit 40 and a servo circuit 41 are modified in value to suit the detected recording and reproducing rate.
