Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the wave surface aberration caused by various errors when manufacturing an optical element, while suppressing the loss of light from the light source as much as possible, and correct especially the aberration due to thickness errors, slope errors of an optical recording medium.
SOLUTION: This liquid crystal element 3 has a light source 1, an objective lens 2 to condense the light flux from the light source 1 to irradiate the signal recording surface 101a of an optical recording medium 101, and a liquid crystal element 3 which has a front and a rear flat surface and is disposed in an optical path between the light sources 1, and the objective lens 2 to give a predetermined phase distribution to the transmitted light. It is built by sandwiching a liquid crystal molecule layer with a pair of transparent base plates whose sides facing the liquid crystal molecule layer are formed making the thickness distribution of the liquid crystal molecule layer similar to the phase distribution caused by the predetermined aberration.

SOLUTION: An optical switch 3 using a ferroelectric substrate electrooptically switches light beams entering on a plurality of objective lenses that are mounted on an optical pickup and on a plurality of optical heads. Further, a light deflector 9, installed between the optical switch 3 and the objective lens 2, electrooptically changes the direction of a light beam, which is outputted from the optical switch 3 and directed to the objective lens, and performs a tracking operation. Such optical switch 3 and the light deflector 9 carry out these operations in accordance with a periodic polarization reversing structure formed in the ferroelectric substrate and with a voltage applied to the electrode arranged at least on two surfaces of the substrate.

A conductive film 102 formed on the side of the optical master disk base material 51 does not generate reflected light even when a laser beam is focused on the photosensitive resist layer 101 and brings recorded data capacity of higher density comparing with the case using an optical master disk forming a conductive film having metal reflection.

This optical lens 22 is arranged within a through hole 26 formed in the direction orthogonal to the air lubricating surface for the slider.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic field generator and a magneto-optical disk device arranged close to an optical disk and capable of effectively utilizing a magnetic field even when the magnetic field generator is arranged on the side of an optical pickup. SOLUTION: The magnetic field generator includes a circular substrate 21 provided with a hole 21a on its center, a coil 22 constituted of a conductive pattern formed around the hole 21a on the surface of the substrate 21, through holes 21a, 21b pierced into the substrate 21 in the end part areas of the conductive pattern, and power supply parts 24, 25 formed on the rear face of the substrate 21 in the areas of the through holes 21a, 21b and connected to the conductive pattern through the through holes 21a, 21b. Since driving voltage is applied from the power supply parts 24, 25 formed on the rear face of the substrate 21 to the coil 22 formed on the substrate 21 constituting the magnetic field generator, there is no wiring to the coil on the optical disk side of the substrate 21. Thereby the wiring is not brought into contact with the optical disk and there is no fear of big damage occuring on the optical disk or the disconnection of the wiring.

SOLUTION: When there is a variation in thickness of a substrate 61, a spherical abberation is generated. Then, in the case a two-group lens having a high numerical aperture is used as a lens unit, when the thickness of the substrate 61 is fluctuated remarkably, the quality of a reproduced signal is impaired largely. Since when the thickness of the substrate is thickened too much, the influence due to a skew becomes large, it is desirable to make the thickness of the substrate to be within the range of 0.1mm to 0.3mm and it is made to be =0.8 because the multiple of about 1.8 times is multiplied with respect to the numerical aperture of an incident light.

A half mirror 10 separates return light from the optical disk 20 converged by a condenser lens 9 onto an RF signal system optical path 11 and a servo signal system optical path 15. A concave lens 12 enlarges the return light on the RF signal system optical path 11. A slit 13 eliminates ±1st-order light among the return light enlarged by the concave lens 12. The photodetector 14 for an RF signal receives zero-order light transmitting through the slit 13. The photodetector 17 for a servo signal receives the zero-order light and the ±1st-order light led by a multi-lens 16.
