    Abstract: An optical recording medium and an optical disk device for realizing the prevention of cross-write and the homogenization of a reproduced signal, and easily ensuring compatibility with a reproduction-only disk. An optical recording medium comprising a substrate (1) formed with grooves (2) in the surface thereof, an optical recording layer (3) formed on the substrate and having an uneven shape matching the grooves, and a light-transmitting protection film (4) formed on the optical recording layer, recording or reproducing to/from the substrate being made by being applied a light beam (LB) that is condensed by lenses (12, 14) having numerical apertures of 0.85 .plusmn. 0.1 and has a wavelength of 405 .plusmn. 5 nm, wherein a recording or reproducing light beam applied to the optical recording layer from a protection film side is used, either one of that portion, corresponding to a recess of the uneven shape distal from a recording or reproducing light applying side, of the optical recording layer and that portion, correspondin g to a protrusion proximal to the side, only is used as a recording area, a track pitch is 0.32 .plusmn. 0.01 .mu.m, and a protrusion-to-recess depth D2 ranges 19-24 nm.

    Abstract: An optical disk (10) of the present invention has a substrate (11) included a resin-impregnated paper, in which resin is impregnated into paper, or resin-coated paper, in which the paper surface is coated with a resin, and a recording layer (13) formed on at least one side of the substrate (11). This type of optical disk (10) has performance equal to that of conventional optical disks and has a minimal effect on the environment during disposal. In addition, a manufacturing method of an optical disk of the present invention has a recording layer sheet fabrication step in which a recording layer sheet is fabricated by forming tracks on a recording layer base material, and a recording layer sheet lamination step in which a recording layer (13) included the recording layer sheet is provided on a substrate (11) included resin-impregnated paper or resin-coated paper by laminating the recording layer sheet with the resin-impregnated paper in which a resin is impregnated into paper or the resin-coated paper in which the surface of the paper is coated with a resin. This type of manufacturing method of an optical disk allows optical disk (10) to be produced inexpensively.
