    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent all of serially-connected light-emitting diodes in one row from being unlit during an opening failure (an open failure) in the light-emitting diodes by a simple configuration. SOLUTION: Each protection element 52A-52n is connected in parallel to each of a plurality of the serially-connected light-emitting diodes 51A-51n. By this, when the opening failure occurs in the light-emitting diodes, dielectric breakdown of the protection elements connected in parallel to the light-emitting diodes occurs, so as to prevent all of the serially-connected light-emitting diodes in one row from being unlit. The protection element is composed of an insulating layer film-formed between a light-emitting diode chip fixed on a substrate and a wiring pattern formed on the substrate. When the opening failure occurs in the light-emitting diodes, the insulating layer provided between the wiring pattern and a lead terminal of the light-emitting diode chip dielectrically breaks down so as to make conductive between the wiring pattern and the light-emitting diode. The light emitting part 2a of the fluorescent tube 2 is held on a reflection plate 1 having a rectangular planar shape. The constituting parts of an inverter circuit part 3 which is the power source circuit part for driving and lighting the fluorescent tube 2 are disposed between the non-light emitting parts 2b at both ends of the fluorescent tube 2 projecting from one side of the reflection plate 1. Namely, the inverter circuit part 3 is provided between the non-light emitting parts 2b of the fluorescent tube 2 which is a dead space. Since both ends of the fluorescent tube 2 and the inverter circuit part 3 are in proximity to each other, the drawing around length of the wiring of a high voltage connecting therebetween is minimized.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To construct the circuit part of a fluorescent lamp in small size and suppress the cost by allowing a part of a core to be used commonly for a discharge transformer and a heater transformer, accomplishing a consolidated structure, and thereby compacting the transformer part. CONSTITUTION:A discharge transformer 10 and a heater transformer 11 use the same core 12b partially and are embodied in a consolidated structure. The gaps between the core 12b and the core portions which are not shared by them commonly are dimensioned properly to prevent magnetic saturation of the core 12b and to relieve the degree of bond of two magnetic circuits. The transformer part 11 operates only at the time of starting, followed by start of discharging, and thereafter the transformer is put out of operation. Then another core 12C performs heat radiation for the transformer 10 through the heat sink effect. Thus the two transformers 10, 11 are consolidated, wherein one makes that radiation for the other, which allows accomplishing a small-sized structure to lead to making the whole circuit small, which also ensures suppression of cost.
