Abstract: The objective of the present invention is to facilitate to identify whether or not the optical disc is a optical disc of which recording capacity is enlarged. A synchronization pattern of ATIP information embedded into guide grooves irradiated with a light spot is made to be different between a high density optical disc and a standard density optical disc of which recording capacity is not enlarged. Specifically, while the synchronization pattern of the standard density optical disc is made into "3T+1T+1T+3T" (where "T" represents a minimum channel bit of a signal obtained by reading a positional information), the synchronization pattern of the high density optical disc is made into "3T+3T+1T+1T" for example. By reading the ATIP information and recognizing the synchronization pattern thereof, it can be easily and quickly identified whether the optical disc has a standard density or a high density.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve interchangeability and operability in using a recordable multi-layer disk. SOLUTION: A region for recording interlayer folding back position information is set on a recording medium (e.g., End sector number in Layer 0 or a session item type 3). In response to a fact that recording on a certain recording layer reaches a maximum recording range or that data recording advances from a certain recording layer to a next recording layer, interlayer folding back position information is recorded in the recording medium. When an advancement of the data recording to another recording layer is performed at a stage prior to disk closing or sector closing, or when it is predicted that such an advancement of the data recording occurs afterwards, the interlayer folding back position information is recorded. Also where the disk is of the type for which multi-session recording is performed, the interlayer return position information is recorded with regard to a session in which folding back is performed. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily carry out processing based on detected additional information embedded in contents data while reducing the load of hardware. SOLUTION: The additional information embedded in the contents is detected from data near the head portion of a prescribed amount of contents data. The contents of the detected additional information are judged, and a prescribed amount of the contents data is recorded on a prescribed medium when judged as recordable contents data. Recording is not carried out on the medium when judged as contents data whose recording is prohibited.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily discriminate whether the optical disk has the increased recording density. SOLUTION: The level 'Pmax' of read-out signals SRF-N, SRF-H obtained by reproducing the optical disk having standard density or high density is the signal level based on the reflected light at the time when the position having no pit is irradiated by the light beam, and the 'P0' is the level when there is no reflected light. The bottom peak level of the signal SRF-N at the standard density becomes 'P(min-N)', and the signal SRF-H at the high density becomes 'P(min-H)' which is the level higher than 'P(min-N)'. The level difference between 'Pmax' and 'Pmin' is expressed as 'L0'. 'Pmax-P(min-N)' is expressed as 'L1', then the modulation degree 'L1/L0' at the standard density is obtained. 'Pmax- P(min-H)' is expressed as 'L2', then the modulation degree 'L2/L0' at the high density is obtained. By making a reference level signal Lth to be '(L1/L0)>Lth>(L2/L0)' and comparing it with the modulation degree, it is discriminated whether the optical disk is provided with the standard density or the high density.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To express the absolute time that can correspond to a large-capacity optical disk, etc., and to easily discriminate the type of the optical disk. SOLUTION: An absolute time area is extended by means of a comparatively unimportant area such as a zero data area and/or a relative time area included in a Q channel contained in a subcode of a CD recording format. Concretely an absolute time is expressed by performing the BCD expression of the digits of '100 minutes' by means of lower 4 bits included in an 8-bit zero data area ZERO. Thus, the absolute times covering up to the largest 999 minutes 59 seconds 74 frame can be expressed. Meanwhile, the identification information showing an optical disk of large capacity and high density, for example, can be expressed by means of higher 4 bits included in the area ZERO.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently utilize the max. data transfer rate. SOLUTION: This reproducing device has a disk rotating means which is capable of rotating a loaded disk at a specified angular speed, a capacity detecting means which detects the logic block address of the data recorded in the outermost periphery of the data area recorded with the data as the data capacity recorded on the disk from a control information area of the disk and a control means which executes the control of the disk rotating means in accordance with the data capacity detected by the capacity detecting means. The device sets the disk rotating speed according to the data capacity (S007, S009, S010, S014, S016), S017).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute high speed conversion in an access time even at the time of two-point reading or random reading by setting a data storing operation system to a cache memory based on the request forms of a data request. SOLUTION: The reproduction control means of a reproducing means judges the request forms of the supplied data request and sets the data storing operation system (buffering method) to the cache memory based on the request form. That is, when it is judged that the request form is not the sequential one, plural memory areas are division-set by a cache memory means and a data storing operation is executed against a certain memory area. Data in the cache memory till this time is secured at every area without perfectly executing purging even unless reading is not the continuous data one. In the meantime, when the data request is judged to be the sequential one, the data storing operation is executed with the cache memory means as one ring memory form.
