Abstract: 21,697. Stewart, J. Sept. 26. Plug cocks; combinations of interdependent valves.-A multiple-way reversing valve or plug cock for gas-producers having two gas-producing chambers comprises a hollow rotatable plug 35 divided into upper and lower compartments by a plate 36; the upper compartment, which is for steam and air supply, has two ports 41 registering alternately with a port 39 in each of two similar passages 25 communicating with the two gas-producing chambers. The lower compartment, which is for gas discharge and opens into the gas exit pipe, has a port 40 adapted to register alternately with a port 38 in each of the two passages 25. The ports are so arranged that when the air inlet port 39 to one passage 25 is open, the gas exit port 38 of the other passage 25 is also open but the air inlet port 39 thereof is closed. By rotation of the plug 35, steam and air can be supplied alternately to, and gas alternately withdrawn from, the two gas chambers. The port 40 is long enough to register with both ports 38 under certain circumstances. An air supply pipe 34 opens into the valve casing above the plug 35 from which air passes through a non- return valve 42 which is opened by the suction due to an engine withdrawing or using the gas. At one end of the beam is a balance weight F, and at the other is an aÙrial machine propelled by the rider's feet or by other power. The propeller P is driven by gearing N, and may be raised by winding the string R on the revolving handle-bar M. By adjusting the aÙroplanes U, and the height and speed of the propeller, the rider and machine are raised in the air in addition to having a rotary motion round the pole.
