Abstract:
Age is verified by electro-optically reading the date of birth in a machine-readable format on a target, and by comparing the date of birth with a current date or a latest acceptable date. An output signal is generated when the date of birth and the date differ by a predetermined time period.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for improving direct part mark dataform decoding using a scanner comprising a processing unit, an optical module and an imaging sensor with an extended dynamic range. The scanner captures data to obtain an extended dynamic range image for analysis. In one embodiment, the sensor is sensitive to more than eight bits per pixel and in other embodiments multiple exposures are taken. Further in alternate embodiments, the scanner comprises a pass-band filter that passes the light emitted by an illumination module.
Abstract:
A barcode reader (100) having a light source (106) illuminating a barcode, a diffuser (104) disposed between the light source and the barcode, a camera opening at least partially surrounded by the diffuser, light reflected from the barcode passing through the camera opening and a camera (110) oriented to acquire light reflected from the barcode after passing through the diffuser from the light source.
Abstract:
A method of identifying or authenticating a product by providing an analog identification indicium including a randomized pattern of identification features on a first part of the product wherein one or more attributes of the randomized pattern of identification features correspond to an item identifier. A digital identification record is provided on a second part of the product including an encoded digital version of the item identifier, the first and second parts being separable when the product is used. The randomized pattern of identification features of the analog identification indicium is read and decoded to generate an item identifier and the digital identification record is read and decoded to generate an item identifier. If a special light source is necessary to read the randomized pattern of identification feature, a flag is present in the analog identification indicium or the digital identification record that indicates one or more types of light sources that can be used to read the identification feature. The appropriate light source is activated to read the identification feature and if the appropriate light source is not available the user is alerted to this fact. The product is deemed authentic if the item identifier from the analog identification indicium substantially matches the item identifier from the digital identification record.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for identifying and reading a postal code (12) with ascender bars (4), descender bars (5), full bars (6), and clock bars (7), includes a hand held code reader (10). An image of the postal code is reprocessed by determining the orientation and position within an image and then is read and decoded. The system is capable of discriminating between different formats of code patterns.

Abstract:
An imaging scan engine includes both a solid-state camera and an illumination source in the same package. The scan engine unit simplifies the integration of swipe imaging components into new and existing scanners.
Abstract:
A solid-state imager is mounted at a point-of-transaction workstation for capturing images of one- and two-dimensional indicia and is operated at high speed to resist image blurring due to relative movement between the target and the imager. Dedicated hardware assistance and computation resources are allocated to decode multiple, continuous and simultaneous video streams from multiple imagers at the workstation.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for illuminating objects comprising asymmetrically illuminating an object using an illumination medium on one side of an optical module of an information capturing module, capturing an electronic representation of the object and decoding the electronic representation of said object. In alternate embodiments, the scanner successively illuminates the object from a plurality of different angles until the object and/or dataform is decoded. The illumination medium can be external to the information capturing module.
Abstract:
Described is a system and method for encrypted communications. The system may include first and second transponders. The first transponder has a first memory arrangement that stores a first key. The second transponder includes a second memory arrangement and has an access to a second key. The first transponder generates a first message for delivery to the second transponder, and encrypts the first message using a randomization key to generate a second message. Then, the first transponder encrypts (a) the second message and (b) one of the a randomization key corresponding index using the first key to generate a third message. The second key may decrypt the third message.
