    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent gas barrier properties by setting centerline mean roughness in a specific area to a specific value without protrusion having a specific size or more on at least one side surface. SOLUTION: Centerline mean roughness (Ra) per square of 2 μm without protrusion having at least 10 nm or more on one side surface is set to 0.7 nm or less. The polyester is preferably constituted by material having 70 mol% or more of ethylene terephthalate unit and/or ethylene naphthalate unit in view of heat resistance and film producing properties. And, as a method for setting the Ra to 0.7 nm or less, a method using external particles and/or internal particles having monodisperse article size or a method for heat treating polyester at within 15C from its melting point after it is biaxially oriented is preferable. As a method for manufacturing the film, for example, after polyester is dried, it is melted, extruded, brought into close contact with a casting drum, and cooled to be solidified to obtain an unoriented sheet. As a method for manufacturing a film, a sequentially biaxially orienting type or simultaneously biaxially orienting type according to a tenter type is used.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester film for metal lamination and fabrication that has excellent abrasion resistance, taste characteristics, and adhesion after retorting and is useful for metallic cans by constituting the film with a biaxially oriented polyester film that has a low content of free aromatic dicarboxylic mono-methyl ester and contains over prescribed amounts of specific metals. SOLUTION: This objective film is constituted of a biaxially oriented polyester film having =100 ppm of the total metal content including Ti, Mn and Mg. This film preferably has a main melt peak of >=246 deg.C and a plane orientation coefficient of 0.100-0.120. In a preferred embodiment, the polyester of this film contains >=90 mol.% of ethylene terephthalate and/or ethylene naphthalate, has an intrinsic viscosity of >=0.651 dl/g and contains 0.01-50 wt.% of flocculated dry silica with an average particle size of 0.01-10 μm.

A polyester of a metallic plate side layer contains particles of 0.05-1 wt.% each having a shape function of 1.1 or more and contains particles of 0.1 wt.% or less each having a shape function of less than 1.1.
