Abstract:
An exemplary weaving method includes placing a first section of a fill fiber between warp fibers, forming a pick, moving a base to reposition the warp fibers, and placing a second section of the fill fiber between the warp fibers.
Abstract:
A blade outer air seal (BOAS) for a gas turbine engine according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a seal body having a radially inner face and a radially outer face that axially extend between a leading edge portion and a trailing edge portion. At least one cooling fin is disposed on the radially outer face between the leading edge portion and the trailing edge portion.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates generally to blade outer air seal section mount including a resilient spring element that acts to provide re-centering forces to the blade outer air seal section when non-uniform forces applied to the blade outer air seal section causing it to move away from its nominal position.
Abstract:
A toggle seal, for use with a rim seal, including: a seal body, a proximal end and a distal end, a first end seal extending in a first axial direction from the proximal end of the seal body, a second end seal extending in the first axial direction from the distal end of the seal body, a first protruding portion extending in a second axial direction from the proximal end, opposite of the first end seal, and a second protruding portion extending in the second axial direction from the distal end, opposite of the second end seal, wherein the first end seal is configured to operatively engage the wheel disk and the second end seal is configured to operatively engage the at least one blade.
Abstract:
An airfoil component includes an insert that has angled faces joined at an edge that provides an airfoil trailing edge. An outer CMC fiber layer overlaps the angled faces to provide a trailing edge portion of an airfoil.
Abstract:
A method of densifying a CMC article includes the steps of pyrolyzing a CMC article until a desired initial porosity is achieved, coating CMC pores within the CMC article with carbon, pyrolyzing the carbon to form carbon pores, coating the carbon pores with silicon, and heat treating the CMC article to create a silicon carbide filled pore integrated with silicon carbide of the CMC article to densify the CMC article.
Abstract:
One exemplary embodiment of this disclosure relates to a system having a static segment with a circumferentially extending slot. The system further includes a retention clip partially received in the slot, and partially contacting a circumferential end of the static segment.
Abstract:
A control ring extends circumferentially about a central axis. A plurality of circumferentially spaced carrier portions have a cavity receiving the control ring. There are circumferential gaps between the carrier portions. A blade outer air seal is mounted on the carrier portions radially inwardly of the control ring. The control ring maintains the carrier portions at a radially outwardly expanded position when heated by an electric heater.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine component assembly includes first and second portions, wherein at least one of the first and second portions is a ceramic material. The first portion includes an aperture having a first angled surface. The second portion is disposed within the aperture and includes a second angled surface adjacent to the first angled surface. The first and second angled surfaces lock the first and second portions to one another under a pulling load. A bonding material operatively secures the first and second angled surfaces to one another.
