    Abstract: A nickel powder which can reduce the film thickness of an inner electrode without causing the generation of structural defects or the degradation of electric characteristics or strength of electronic components, a conductive paste comprising the nickel powder, and a multilayer ceramic electronic component having high reliability and excellent electric characteristics by using the paste are provided. A nickel powder with an average particle size of 0.05 to 1.0 mum comprises a thin Ni oxide layer on a surface thereof and has an oxygen content of 0.3 to 3.0 wt.% and a carbon content of 100 ppm or less per specific surface area of 1 m^2/g of the powder as a weight ratio of carbon to the nickel powder of unit weight. The nickel powder has a carbon content of 80 ppm or less per specific surface area of 1 m^2/g of the powder as a weight ratio to the nickel powder of unit weight. The nickel powder further comprises sulfur in a content of 30 to 500 ppm per specific surface area of 1 m^2/g of the powder as a weight ratio to the nickel powder of unit weight.
