Abstract:
The invention relates to a cylinder crankcase (1, 201, 301, 401, 501) for an internal combustion engine with a lightweight design, comprising at least one cast part (4, 204, 304, 404, 504) that has been cast into an external structure (2, 202, 302, 402, 502). To save weight and at the same time permit high combustion pressures, the cast part (4, 204, 304, 404, 504) consists, (at least partially) of a particle-reinforced light alloy, preferably a particle-reinforced aluminium or magnesium alloy.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a compression device (1) including at least: - two interleaved scrolls (3, 5) each of which is made of an aluminum alloy, wherein one of the scrolls, referred to as the fixed scroll (3), is fixed and the other scroll, referred to as the orbiting scroll (5), moves eccentrically without rotating, and - anti-rotation means made of an aluminum alloy and suitable for allowing anti-rotation of the orbiting scroll (5), characterized in that it further comprises, at least: - a flat thrust bearing (7) suitable for axially retaining the orbiting scroll (5) and made of a material selected from a set of materials including aluminum alloys or grades of cast iron, and - coatings for promoting friction between the fixed scroll (3), the orbiting scroll (5), and the anti-rotation means and the flat thrust bearing (7).
Abstract:
An aqueous phosphoric bonding solution consists essentially of phosphoric acid, a source of magnesium ions, and a leachable corrosion inhibitor. The bonding solution is stable with respect to inorganic metal particles, such as aluminum, which are admixed to the bonding solution for the preparation of a coating slurry. Metal parts coated with the coating compositions have very satisfactory properties such as heat and corrosion resistance.
Abstract:
Light alloy articles comprising a body of light alloy having a composite fiber/light alloy layer, a sprayed heat-resistant alloy layer, and a sprayed ceramic base layer formed on the body in this sequence exhibit improved heat resistance and insulation and are very useful in the manufacture of internal combustion engine pistons. A method for producing such a coated light alloy article by spraying is also provided.
Abstract:
A lubricant pump includes a housing in which at least one pair of intermeshing gear wheels is arranged for conveying lubricant. One gear wheel is rotatably supported on a drive shaft and the other gear wheel is rotatably supported on an axially shiftable displacement unit for adjusting a variable flow volume. Axially displaceable in a housing receptacle is a control piston for hydraulically adjusting the position of the displacement unit. The control piston is configured as composite structural part and has a central longitudinal shaft and cylinder rings which include control edges for clearing or closing control channels feeding into the receptacle. The cylinder rings are made from a material which reduces friction and/or wear with respect to the receptacle, and the central longitudinal shaft has at least one section made from a material having a coefficient of thermal expansion at least substantially corresponding to the one of the receptacle.
Abstract:
A sacrificial body mitigates cavitation damage to components within a pump. The sacrificial body is mounted in the pump so that flowing fluid passes over the sacrificial body, which causes the sacrificial body to shed electrons into the flowing fluid in the vicinity of the cavitation. The excess electrons tend to suppress hydrogen ions from releasing, which can mitigate cavitation. The sacrificial body is formed of a material having less resistance to corrosion due to the flowing fluid than the components of the pump. Needles are attached to the sacrificial body for immersion in the flowing fluid to facilitate the release of the electrons for the sacrificial body.
Abstract:
A major engine casting, such as an engine block or a cylinder head, fabricated of either magnesium or aluminum alloy, has a cast-in-place metal tube or form embedded within it. The tube or form enables circulation of liquid while substantially physically isolating the casting alloy from the circulating liquid and thereby restricting or eliminating corrosive interaction between them.
