There is provided an image input apparatus which can quickly and easily move a camera head to a position that the operator intended, can adequately adjust the position of the camera head, can improve operability in the document photographing mode, and is easy to carry. The image input apparatus has a camera head (2) for inputting an image, support members (5, 6) coupled via a plurality of joint portions (4, 11, 12, 15, 16) so as to be able to support the camera head (2), and a base (14) for supporting the proximal end side of the support members (5, 6). When an image is input by the camera head (2), the camera head (2) can be held at a predetermined position and posture by each of the plurality of joint portions (4, 11, 12, 15, 16). A pivot support mechanism arranged between a camera unit and a support portion has a first support member (6) having two opposing projections (107), a second support member (8) arranged between the two projections (107), a pair of clamping members (104) arranged to clamp the two projections (107) between the second support member (8) and themselves, and a torque generation mechanism (102, 104, 105) for generating a torque between the second support member (8), the clamping members (104), and the projections (107). A pivot support mechanism arranged between a support portion and a base has a first support member (112, 113) having two opposing projections, a second support member 111 which is a planar member having a U-shaped section, and has two end portions respectively engaging with the two projections and a coupling portion for coupling these two end portions, and a torque generation mechanism (114, 116, 118, 119) arranged between the first and second support members (111, 112, 113). An opening portion through which the cable extends is formed on the coupling portion.

A webcam device having a maneuverable extendable arm pivotally anchored to an anchor point, (such as a stand-alone, desk-top base in a preferred embodiment of the present invention), and whose miniature video camera, in an unobtrusive manner, can be centrally positioned at about eye level between a user and a computer monitor so as to capture an image of the face and eyes of the user engaged in a conversation with another user and thereby establish virtual eye contact between them.

A portable camera for recording and displaying an image of an object such as printed paper wherein the camera is arranged to be positioned on an object to be recorded wherein the cameras is provided with an outer lower surface which is arranged to be in contact with the object if the camera is positioned on the object, a light sensitive sensor for obtaining an image of at least a portion of the object, a display and processing means for processing the image obtained by means of the sensor and for displaying at least a portion of the recorded image on the display in a possible magnified form, wherein the camera is provided with at least one lighting unit for lighting the object to be recorded when the camera is positioned on the object, wherein the camera is arranged such that light rays of the at least one lighting unit which are, in use, submitted to the object are directly submitted to the object, possibly via a mirror and/or a lens wherein the lighting unit is arranged within the camera such that if the object which is recorded would be a flat mirror whereon the camera is positioned for recording the flat mirror, the lighting unit is located outside a viewing field of the sensor which viewing field is formed in combination with the flat mirror.

Disclosed is a portable magnifier camera that can be selectively positioned into a variety of configurations. At least four distinct viewing configurations are provided: a reading mode wherein the camera rests flatly upon the viewed object; a writing mode wherein the camera rests at an angle upon the viewed object; a hand-held mode wherein the user holds the camera relative to a distant object; and an inspection mode wherein the user holds the viewed object relative to the camera. These configurations enable a user to effectively view objects of differing size and at varying distances.

Ein erfindungsgemässer Gelenkarm (1) zum Ausrichten einer Aufnahmeeinrichtung (2) zur optischen Aufnahme eines auf einer Auflagefläche (3) aufzulegenden Objekts weist - wie ein herkömmlicher Doppel-Parallelogrammarm - einen Fussteil (4), einen Kopfteil (7), einen Gelenkteil (10) und zwei Paar Stangen (5, 6, 8, 9) auf, die den Fussteil (4) bzw. den Kopfteil (7) mit dem Gelenkteil (10) verbindenden. Im Gegensatz zum Stand der Technik weist ein erfindungsgemässer Gelenkarm (1) zudem eine am Kopfteil (7) drehbar befestigte Welle (11) auf, die mit einer der am Kopfteil (7) schwenkbar befestigten Stangen (9) in einer mechanischen Wirkverbindung steht. Diese Wirkverbindung hat ein Drehen der Welle (11) relativ zum Kopfteil (7) bei einem Schwenken der Stange (9) zur Folge.

A collapsible camera (10) includes a housing (30) having a base (31) and a cover unit (32) that is moveable relative to the base between a closed position and an open position, an imaging unit (11) within the housing for producing an image of an object, and a first optics (12) within the housing being optically coupled to the imaging unit when the cover unit is in the open position for focusing substantially on the base. A second optics (13) may also be disposed within the housing so as to optically coupled to the imaging unit when the cover unit is in the closed position for long distance focusing. A printer (18) within the housing operates in conjunction with a transport mechanism (23) and a processor (14) coupled to a memory (15) that stores data representative of a pixelated image produced by the imaging unit (11) or downloaded via a communication interface (16) for printing on material disposed on the base. The communication interface (16) is preferably a wireless interface such as a cellular telephone interface.

An operability of a user in an image processing apparatus such as a camera scanner is improved. For this purpose, the image processing apparatus has: a pickup image obtaining unit for obtaining a pickup image on a stage through an imaging unit; a distance image obtaining unit for obtaining a distance image on the stage through a solid measuring unit; a detecting unit for detecting the putting of an object on the stage based on the obtained pickup image; a projecting unit for projecting an operation display regarding the reading of the object onto the stage through a projector when the putting of the object is detected; a recognizing unit for recognizing a gesture of the user on the stage based on the obtained distance image; and a reading unit for obtaining a read image of the object in accordance with the gesture to the projected operation display.
