Abstract:
A portable unit (10) monitors physiological parameters using activity (12), vertical position (24) and rotational (26) sensors, a breath sound microphone (14), electrocardiogram electrodes (20), (21) and (22), and converts their analog signals into a serial stream of digital data using circuit pack (100). This circuit pack sends the transformed data to the battery/trasmitter pack (102) which transmits the data periodically. The plurality of sensors in vest (104) are worn by the patient with body straps (106) and (108). A position switch (114) and a nurse call button (28) are accessible to the patient. A base station (44) includes a receiver (42) which receives the transmitted data and reconverts it to a digital signal and a data processing unit (48) which records the data in memory (50).
Abstract:
A meter (10) for measuring cervical dilation during labor includes rings (20 and 22) that fit at the bases of the user's fingers (24 and 26). Pivot arms (14 and 16) mount the rings (20 and 22) at one end and a scale and indicator (30) at the other end. Scale indicia indicate the separation of the rings. Ring separation can be translated into the separation of the finger tips and thus into cervical dilation.
Abstract:
Auxiliary apparatus for measurements and photogrammetry characterized by constituting an assembly formed by a basic structure (1), rectangular or square, which supports fixed or adjustable panels (2), where metric scales (4) are mounted, forming a frame where the model fits in and, with the help of one or more plumbs (5), establishes the coordinates for the interpretation of measures registered visual observation, photography, cinematography, video-tape. Positioned in the base of apparatus, however isolated from the assembly of the basic structure (1) and scales (4), a platform (6), with graphic signs on the ground, establishes the position of the model. The horizontal line, formed by the levelled platform ground, determines the zero position of the vertical scales.
Abstract:
For monitoring physiological parameters in humans a harness (10) is provided with a thoraco-abdominal band (12) incorporating an electro-conductive elastomeric sensor (13) the stretch movements of which are electronically monitored by unit (15) which incorporates a keyboard (16) for entering personal and physical characteristic data. Analysing circuitry within unit (15) effects a frequency analysis of the signal received from the sensor (13) to identify its three principal frequencies, respectively representing breathing rate, total body movement, and heart rate. Calculation circutry within unit (15) effects evaluation of consumed calories and fitness factor.
Abstract:
Apparatus for investigating the condition of muscles and the play in joints comprises a probe (10) with a displaceable plunger (14) which generates force pulses to be applied to a body. The probe includes a force transducer (18), such as a load cell, providing a first output waveform representative of the reaction of the body to the force of the applied pulse, and an accelerometer (24) providing a second output waveform representative of the acceleration of the body due to the applied pulse. Information as to the muscles and/or joints is obtained by processing the two waveforms in a computer (28) to give an output based upon both force and acceleration. The force pulse preferably has a slowly rising leading edge, for example being sinusoidal.
Abstract:
An identity security device (10) comprises a carrier (11) overlaid by a cover (16) whose ends can be lifted to reveal an area of paste of coloured powder or clay (12) and a strip of adhesive tape (13). For completion of an action supported by a personal identity card (for example a credit card) the user will press a finger on to the paste (12) and transfer the powder to the adhesive surface (15) of the tape (13) so that a powder imprint of the user will be impressed on the tape. The tape (13) will then be placed face down on a document relating to the action which has taken place and will become stuck thereto by the adhesive and will lift off the carrier (11) as it breaks away from a further layer of adhesive (14) having a breaking strength below that of the adhesive surface (15).
Abstract:
An apparatus for continuous monitoring of the respiration of a subject (2), which comprises an elastic or flexible leader-element (1) being adapted to be located around the body of the subject to receive respiration-movements and to transform these to electric signals to be received by a sensing-device connected to said leader-element. The sensing-device is connected to an alarm-device (7,8) which preferably is activated by a micro-processor not until a predetermined time has elapsed since a ceasing or strong weakening of the electric signals.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A measuring tape (10) has indicia thereon for measuring a patient, the indicia representing increments of a physical treatment or physiological value based upon a correlation between the length of a patient and that value. Drug dosages, tube sizes and medical equipment settings, such as defibrillators, are examples of the type of values which can correlated to body length and placed on the tape (10).1
