    Abstract: A portable unit (10) monitors physiological parameters using activity (12), vertical position (24) and rotational (26) sensors, a breath sound microphone (14), electrocardiogram electrodes (20), (21) and (22), and converts their analog signals into a serial stream of digital data using circuit pack (100). This circuit pack sends the transformed data to the battery/trasmitter pack (102) which transmits the data periodically. The plurality of sensors in vest (104) are worn by the patient with body straps (106) and (108). A position switch (114) and a nurse call button (28) are accessible to the patient.     Abstract: An omnidirectional antenna system comprises a transmitter unit (14) for generating circularly polarized signals and a receiver unit (16) for receiving the circularly polarized signals by way of spherically polarized antenna array. The transmitter unit (14) includes a pair of orthogonally-oriented, quadrature phased antenna elements (30A, 30B) for receiving the signal from the second tripler and transmitting the signal as a circularly polarized signal. The receiver unit (16) includes three mutually orthogonally-oriented antenna elements (34A, 34B, 34C), which define a spherically polarized antenna, for receiving the circularly polarized signals.

    Abstract: A transducer which can be used on an ambulatory subject, which is extremely responsive, which requires no external power for operation, and which is small in size and calibratable. The transducer is rugged and impervious to incidental movement. A piezoelectric film (15), in the form of two sheets is sandwiched between two lengths of non-elastic material (10a, 10b). Planar electrodes (20) are coupled to the faces of the piezoelectric sheets to provide the output of the transducer. Force is exerted on the lengths of non-elastic material, which bends or flexes, the resultant motion being transduced to the piezoelectric film.
