Abstract:
A light beam is scanned on a track of a recording medium, the track having a first track region and a second track region, each track region having a physical property that has recurring deviations. A wobble signal is derived from the light beam, the wobble signal having information associated with the recurring deviations. Whether the light beam is at the first track region or the second track region is determined based on a frequency, a period, or a pulse width of the wobble signal.
Abstract:
A double-effective vaccine vector against foot-and-mouth disease virus having a bicistronic expression vector sequence, the bicistronic expression vector sequence is an antisense gene sequence capable of conjugating with 5′ UTR of RNA of the foot-and-mouth disease virus genome and an intact sequence of VP1 structural protein gene of the foot-and-mouth disease virus. Animal experiments show that the vaccine vector provides double effects in terms of gene therapy and gene immunization for the prevention and treatment of foot-and-mouth disease in animals. Also provided are construction methods and methods of use of the vaccine vector.
Abstract:
Described are techniques for processing a request to store data. The request to store data in accordance with a single instance storage technique is received. A schedule for storing the data in accordance with information included in the request is determined. Data for processing is requested in accordance with the single instance storage technique in accordance with the schedule.
Abstract:
An apparatus for writing encoded data into a storage medium includes a quality-check signal generator, a defect judgment unit and a verification unit. The quality-check signal generator is utilized for generating a quality-check signal; the defect judgment unit is coupled to the quality-check signal generator and is utilized for generating a defect judgment result according to the quality-check signal; and the verification unit is coupled to the defect judgment unit and is utilized for referring to the defect judgment result to selectively verify the encoded data that have been written into the storage medium.
Abstract:
A composition of acetic acid and a composition of acetic acid and RF3 effecting expression of DAF-16 in C. elegans, wherein the at least acetic acid and the RF3 polysaccharide is effective to increase the life-span of C. elegans or humans. A method of regulating DAF-16 expression, comprising: administering a composition comprising at least acetic acid and RF3 polysaccharide; providing the composition to at least one receptor on a surface of a cell; causing an increase in expression of DAF-16. A method for screening a series of compounds or constituents parts of compounds including some antioxidant vitamins, traditional herb medicines, and vinegars using C. elegans as a live organism model to examine to determine if they have an impact the lifespan of C. elegans and the underlying mechanism(s) thereof.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to the discovery of methods of isolating subfractions of an F3 Reishi extract, and of administration of these novel isolates to eukaryotic cells in order to induce certain immumodulatory, hematopoeitic and tumor-inhibiting phenotypic changes in those eukaryotic cells, mediated through particular toll-like receptor (TLR) and other transmembrane receptors. F3 subfractions F301 and F331 have demonstrated that F331 is capable of activating at least TLR-2 while F301 is capable of activating at least TLR-2, TLR-4, and TLR-5.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for converting cellulose in a lignocellulosic biomass. The method provides for a lignin-blocking polypeptide and/or protein treatment of high lignin solids. The treatment enhances cellulase availability in cellulose conversion. Cellulase efficiencies are improved by the protein or polypeptide treatment. The treatment may be used in combination with steam explosion and acid prehydrolysis techniques. Hydrolysis yields from lignin containing biomass are enhanced 5-20%, and enzyme utilization is increased from 10% to 50%. Thus, a more efficient and economical method of processing lignin containing biomass materials utilizes a polypeptide/protein treatment step that effectively blocks lignin binding of cellulase.
Abstract:
A method and mobile electronic device are provided that display, for a user, a packet switched congestion status of a wireless communication network that is useful for estimating a network quality of service. The method includes transmitting a packet switched congestion status inquiry message from the mobile electronic device to a first network element in the wireless communication network. A reply message received from the first network element in response to the packet switched congestion status inquiry message is then processed. The reply message includes transmission delay information obtained from a device transmission delay between the first network element and the mobile electronic device and a network transmission delay between the first network element and at least one packet switched support node. The packet switched congestion status is then determined based on the transmission delay information. Finally, the packet switched congestion status is displayed on the mobile electronic device.
