    Abstract: A slot draw attenuator apparatus and method are provided for producing webs of spunbonded thermoplastic filaments having improved cover even at low basis weights. The filaments are introduced to a slot draw attenuator having corona electrodes mounted in an elongate insulator bar and staggered and spaced along one wall of the attenuator slot near the exit end thereof. The corona electrodes are electrically connected to a high voltage source. The opposing wall of the slot is grounded. A corona is created in the attenuator slot so that the filaments are charged as they exit the attenuator. The electrostatic charge induces repelling forces in the filaments so that the filaments spread before they are randomly deposited upon a forming belt.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a composite nonwoven fabric comprising a nonwoven web of spunbonded substantially continuous thermoplastic filaments, a nonwoven web of thermoplastic strands, and a nonwoven web of thermoplastic meltblown microfibers sandwiched between the nonwoven web of spunbonded substantially continuous filaments and the nonwoven web of thermoplastic strands. An adhesive agent is disposed between the nonwoven web of spunbonded filaments and the nonwoven web of meltblown microfibers and between the nonwoven web of thermoplastic strands and the nonwoven web of meltblown microfibers, adhering the respective nonwoven webs together to form a unitary composite nonwoven fabric. In a preferred embodiment, the composite nonwoven fabric of the invention comprises a nonwoven web of spunbonded substantially continuous polyamide filaments, a nonwoven web of polyamide strands, and a nonwoven web of polyethylene meltblown microfibers sandwiched between the nonwoven web of spunbonded substantially continuous filaments and the nonwoven web of strands.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a composite nonwoven fabric comprising first and second nonwoven webs of spunbonded substantially continuous thermoplastic filaments, and a nonwoven hydrophobic microporous web of thermoplastic meltblown microfibers sandwiched between the first and second nonwoven webs. The filaments of the nonwoven spunbond webs are formed of continuous multiconstituent filaments which include a lower melting gamma radiation stable polyethylene polymer component and one or more higher melting gamma radiation stable polymer constituents, wherein a substantial portion of the surfaces of the multiconstituent filaments consists of the lower melting gamma radiation stable polyethylene constituent. The nonwoven hydrophobic microporous web is formed from a gamma radiation stable polyethylene polymer. The webs are bonded together to form the composite nonwoven fabric by discrete point bonds in which the polyethylene constituent of said multiconstituent filaments and the polyethylene of said third nonwoven web are fused together.

    Abstract: La presente invencion provee unidades laminares de tela mixta no tejida y procedimientos para producir las mismas; la tela está compuesta de una cinta de filamentos termoplásticos laminados a por lo menos otra cinta; preferiblemente, los filamentos son filamentos continuos de poliolefina unidos por hilatura que tiene una porcion protectora externa oxidativamente degradada para promover mejor union de filamento interno y esfuerzo mejorado de la unidad laminar de tela; en una modalidad preferida, dos cintas externas no tejidas comprenden filamentos unidos por hilatura oxidativamente degradados y están colocados alrededor de y laminados a una cinta de microfibras sopladas bajo fusion formando así una tela unida por hilatura/soplada bajo fusion/unida por hilatura; además, se puede formar una tela compatible con el estiramiento en donde una cinta de filamentos oxidativamente degradados se lamina a una cinta elástica; las telas de la invencion pueden usarse ventajosamente en numerosas aplicaciones tales como prendas médicas y productos absorbentes desechables.
