Abstract: The hinge comprises a compression spring for balancing the weight of leaves which are hinged on a horizontal axis, such as covers, flaps or the like, particularly in refrigerating chests. One end of the compression spring bears under initial stress on the stationary hinge member. The other end of the spring bears by means of the end of a spring-guiding rod, which supports the spring, on the second hinge member, which is secured to the leaf. The lower end of the spring-guiding rod bears by means of a rocker on a knife edge bearing provided on the stationary hinge member. The guiding rod is provided with coarse pitch screw threads at its end opposite to the slider. The rocker carries a nut which has coarse pitch screw threads and is in threaded engagement with the lower end of the guiding rod.

Abstract: 1435642 Spring hinge W GRONBACH 19 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973 6 April 1973 7 May 1973] 7498/74 Headings E2F and E2M A hinge comprises compression springs 18, 19 bearing at one end on a rocker 21 of a knife edge bearing 20 mounted on a stationary hinge member 3 and at the other end on a rod 17 which supports the springs and bears against a hinge member 1 pivoted on a pin 10, the rod 17 having screw threads 22 which engage with a nut 23 carrying the rocker 21. In the closed position of the hinge, the springs 18, 19 force a slider 14 against a cam face part 31 on the member 1 to exert a closing pressure on leaf 2. When the leaf is opened the springs cause the slider 14 to move along cam face 12 and thus move the rod 17 along its longitudinal axis. The longitudinal movement of the rod together with the engagement of the screw threads 22 with the nut 23 causes the rod to rotate about its longitudinal axis. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, the slider 14 is replaced by a bearing 125 which engages with a pivot pin 126 whose ends are received in recesses 127 in the sides of the stationary hinge member 103.

Adjustment of the springs 6, 6' is effected by rotation of a cradle member 11 on a screw-threaded guide tube 10 relative to a bearing edge 12 on the fixed hinge member 3. Recesses 17 define the limits of the bearing pin 16 with respect to the fixed hinge member 3.
