Abstract: A solar receiver is provided, comprising a receiver housing having front and rear ends and extending along a longitudinal axis, a window configured to allow radiation to pass therethrough and being mounted at the front end and projecting within the housing, a receiver chamber defined between the housing and the window and having a working fluid inlet for ingress of working fluid to be heated therewithin, and a working fluid outlet for egress therethrough of the heated working fluid, and a solar radiation absorber configured for absorbing the radiation and heating the working fluid thereby. The absorber is located within the receiver chamber and surrounds at least a portion of the window. The solar radiation absorber is formed with projections, each of the projections being made of a foam material, having a longitudinal axis arranged generally perpendicularly to the window, and has a profile with a characteristic projectile form drag, the projectile form drag being at least 15% less than a reference form drag characterizing a projection having a square profile and oriented such that one of its edges lies substantially perpendicular to flow of working fluid.

Abstract: A solar energy conversion system is presented. The system comprises at least one waveguide arrangement having at least one light input respectively. The waveguide arrangement comprises a core unit for passing input solar radiation therethrough and a cladding material arrangement interfacing with the core therealong. The cladding material arrangement is configured as an array of spaced-apart solar cells arranged along the core unit and having different optical absorption ranges, such that an interface between the waveguide core and the cladding arrangement spectrally splits the photons of the input solar radiation by causing the photons of different wavelengths, while passing through the core unit, to be successively absorbed and thereby converted into electricity by the successive solar cells of said array.

Abstract: A device is presented having reversibly changeable and optically readable optical properties. The device comprises a substrate having an electrically conductive surface and carrying a redox-active layer structure. The redox-active layer structure may be a monolayer or a multi-layer structure and is configured to have at least one predetermined electronic property including at least one of electrodensity and oxidation state. The electronic property of the layer structure defines an optical property of the structure thereby determining an optical response of the structure to certain incident light. This at least one electronic property is changeable by subjecting the redox-active layer structure to an electric field or to a redox-active material. The device thus enables effecting a change in said electronic property that results in a detectable change in the optical response of the layer structure.

Abstract: A method and device are presented for measuring the electrical properties of a specimen. The specimen is excited to cause emission of internal charged particles from the specimen. Variable electrical power is supplied to the specimen by flooding the specimen with low energy charged particles. During the variable power supply to the specimen, an electric current through the specimen is measured and/or variable bias voltage is supplied to the back contact of the specimen. Analysis of the emitted charged particles versus their energy provides local potential values at chemical entities of the specimen. This technique enables determination of rich, chemically resolved, electrical properties of a specimen.
