Abstract: An optical waveguide is provided to minimize a problem due to the weakness of adhesive force of a reflective mirror by applying a matching layer for matching a refractive index between a sidewall of a waveguide medium groove and a reflective block. An optical waveguide(100) includes a waveguide medium(110), a reflective block(120), and a refractive index matching layer(130). The waveguide medium has at least one groove(113). The waveguide medium is formed so that a sidewall(111a) exposed by the groove is inclined with respect to a traveling path of light. The reflective block has a reflective mirror(121) facing the inclined sidewall of the groove and is inserted into the groove so that the reflective mirror faces the sidewall of the groove. The refractive index matching layer is applied between the sidewall of the groove and the reflective mirror.

Abstract: An optical module is provided to transmit a high-speed signal between two devices without electric noise and to make the structure small without using additional space. An optical module(100) is composed of a waveguide(130); at least one photoelectric conversion element(141,142) positioned on the waveguide to convert an optical signal into an electric signal or the electric signal into the optical signal; connecting sockets(110a,110b) equipped with the photoelectric conversion elements and placed on the waveguide; and a driving circuit installed in the connecting socket to drive the corresponding photoelectric conversion element. The upper and lower sides of a part of the connecting socket where the center photoelectric conversion element is installed are perforated. The connecting socket has a groove formed on the surface facing the waveguide to install the corresponding photoelectric conversion element.

Abstract: A spot size converter integrated laser apparatus and a method for fabricating the same are provided to improve an oscillation characteristic of a single mode of a laser diode by reducing the amount of light reflected from a light emitting plane and returned to an active waveguide. A spot size converter integrated laser apparatus includes a substrate, a first waveguide(21), and trenches(22a,22b). The first waveguide(21) separated into an optical source region having an active waveguide(11) and a spot size converter region is stacked on the substrate for optical coupling with an optical fiber. The trenches(22a,22b) are formed on both side walls of the first waveguide(21) so that the light emitted from the active waveguide(11) interferes with light reflected from a wall plane of the first waveguide(21) in the first waveguide(21). A width of the first waveguide(21) is 2 to 12um for an interference of a horizontal direction of the light emitted from the active waveguide(11).
