Abstract:
A method for producing xylitol by using the mutated Candida tropicalis strain is provided to simplifying the production process by eliminating the additional process for maintaining the dissolved oxygen concentration in culture medium to be very low, and inhibit production of by-products such as ethanol and glycerol generated by cultivating the strain under low dissolved oxygen condition. The method for producing xylitol by using the mutated Candida tropicalis strain BS-xdh1(KCTC 11137BP) in which xylitol dehydrogenase is inactivated and arabinose reductase activity is suppressed comprises the steps of: preparing the xylitol production medium containing the biomass hydrolysate as a substrate; inoculating the Candida tropicalis strain BS-xdh1(KCTC 11137BP) into the production medium; and cultivating the strain with sufficient agitation without the separate process of controlling the dissolved oxygen concentration to the low concentration of 0.5 % or 2 %.
