Abstract: PURPOSE: A unit managing method of an optical transmission apparatus is provided to accurately express a hierarchical state and a state with respect to repetition and enhance reliability by preventing occurrence of state inconsistency. CONSTITUTION: A control unit periodically polls each unit and checks whether a unit is mounted/dismounted(201). If a unit is dismounted, the control unit checks a previous state of the unit(207). If the unit was in a mounted state previously(208), the control unit informs a central control unit about the state conversion and changes to the dismounted state(209). If the unit was in a dismounted state previously(210), the control unit maintains the dismounted state(211). If the unit was in a power failure state previously(212), the control unit releases the power failure state(213), transmits corresponding information to the central control unit and changes to the dismounted state(214). If the unit is a type inconsistency state(215), the control unit releases the type inconsistency state(215), transmits corresponding information to the central control unit, and changes to the dismounted state(217).
